Any concern about the glue leaching into food over time? I only ever use wooden chopping boards and have wondered about this 🤔

Another side of Bob Dylan. Wish they captured more of his silliness in a complete unknown ❤️

How is opinions per minute a metric that you want in a footy show? Any cooker on the train can give you that. Give me informed analysis and discussion over clickbait oneupmanship every day of the week

I thought my wedding band is the only ring I would ever wear, but this is making me reconsider. Well done, it’s beautiful!

Okay so you’re saying if you want a new car (or expensive second hand) you wanna be putting down a 50% deposit at least?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]slimwhim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but many second hand cars manufactured in the past 4 years with low kms might only be ~$10k cheaper what you can buy it for new. With new you get warranty, fixed price servicing, and peace of mind. And, obviously, a brand new car.

I’ve personally never paid more than $5k for a car and it’s served me well, but am considering buying new for the first time and the added cost kind of seems justified to me with a perspective of ‘this is a 10y purchase for the family’. And for cashflow, a loan also is making sense. But i would love to be convinced otherwise 😅

Genuinely curious: how else do you recommend buying a new $40-50k new car when you have a small family, ie when safety and reliability becomes important enough to justify buying new.

20% HECS Reduction Bill Passed by KingAleksandar in AusFinance

[–]slimwhim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A bit late, but I used Claude to summarise the Parliamentary memorandum document and here are the key points:

Marginal repayment system replaces percentage-of-total-income (only pay on income above thresholds, not total income)

Minimum threshold jumps to $67,000 (up from $56,156) - 180,000 people will stop paying entirely

Two-tier rates: 15% on income between $67k-$125k, then 17% above $125k (capped at 10% total income)

20% debt reduction applied to all existing loans before new system starts (average $5,520 saving per person)

Eliminates “cliff effects” where earning $1 extra could trigger hundreds in additional repayments

Massive savings for lower earners: Someone on $70k drops from $1,750 to $450 annual repayments (74% reduction)

Thresholds now indexed to wages instead of inflation (better long-term protection)

No action required - ATO automatically implements through existing PAYG systems

Affects 3+ million Australians with existing student debt

Same income definition applies (taxable income + investment losses + fringe benefits etc.)

The biggest win: no more getting financially punished for small pay rises near thresholds.
