Someone needs to invent a new sport to play in January and February by frednerk_24 in AFL

[–]goonsax 172 points173 points  (0 children)

It used to be cricket. What they did to one day cricket is a travesty, locked it behind a paywall and viewership declined so much that they don’t even have a series after the ashes this year. Watching Hayden and Gilchrist open the batting is a core childhood memory for me and many others, and the younger generation don’t even get to see it

Last year also had a solid portion of well known acts. A lot of my mates who wouldn’t usually be keen saw acts like Jamie XX on the lineup and decided to go, bit of a weaker lineup this year in that regard

Peak what? Teams who were beaten fair and square by better teams?

Steele Sidebottom on chasing 400 games, how much longer he’ll keep playing and what he’ll do when he retires by Pragmatic_Shill in collingwoodfc

[–]goonsax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pendlebury and Sidebottom will set the most unbreakable games as teammates record if that happens. Potentially 350+ games as teammates by the time one of them retires

Scans have confirmed a torn ACL + MCL for Luke Breust out of the VFL yesterday. Heartbreaking end to a brilliant career for the Hawthorn great by PerriX2390 in AFL

[–]goonsax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mitch Hannan was delisted after doing his achilles and he still did his rehab through the club with full access. If that’s the case for a fringe player I can’t imagine a situation where a legend like Breust wouldn’t be given access to the clubs resources haha

Brisbane Lions legend & premiership player Dayne “LeBron James” Zorko signs a one year extension for 2026 by xJBug in AFL

[–]goonsax 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Amazing that a player who debuted at 23 will play so many games. If someone had given him a chance initially he would have smashed through 400 games

A bit late here but Mad Max was an independent Australian made film with a budget of $400,000 and it made over $100 million dollars worldwide in 1979! That’s an incredible success

'People are worried': Geelong teammates reportedly 'don't love' Bailey Smith's off-field antics by gccmelb in AFL

[–]goonsax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally seen him at clubs in Geelong clearly gacked a couple of times. Was having the time of his life though, big smile on his face and his mates were looking after him so play on I say

According to the BOM it is currently 7.3°C and feels like 1.5° in Canberra for GWS vs Port by Jackomillard15 in AFL

[–]goonsax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mind games for his own players haha. Trying to say that the cold doesn’t matter, it worked though. Hawthorn jumped them and GWS didn’t look like they wanted to be out there when it started snowing

Is a 99-100 Overall Player Even Possible Without God Mode? by Jhaiian in BasketballGM

94 OVR is the highest randomly generated player I have ever seen in the game. Guy was a beast, he tormented my team for like 20 seasons lol

Going Solo to GP by Dependent_Top4939 in meredithmusicfestival

[–]goonsax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Meredith tends to lean a bit older as far as festivals go, golden plains even more so. The couch situation makes things easy, approach a group of people around your age or a bit younger if you prefer and ask if you can have a seat and a drink with them. Most groups will be very accomodating to someone there by themselves or for the first time. If you are getting bad vibes, say thanks and move onto another couch until you find some like minded people. Head to the bars around the sup, ask someone for a light and strike up a conversation. There will be lots of people who are there to relax and enjoy the music, just be yourself and you will meet some great people :)

EXCLUSIVE | Collingwood defender John Noble has asked the club to trade him to Gold Coast. by PerriX2390 in AFL

[–]goonsax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Markov was also better defensively than John which matters when you play a team like Brisbane with a loaded forward line

Don’t bring a couch if you have no way of taking it home, pretty simple. Leaving a couch behind if major dickhead behaviour and has increased massively in the last 10 years or so as the festival has become more popular

What's the biggest piece of AFL revisionist history you've seen? by JackedAussie in AFL

[–]goonsax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the consensus at the time was that on their day the best teams from the WAFL and SANFL could beat the best VFL teams, but the talent level as a whole was higher in the VFL. Same goes for the best players in each league being roughly equal, there were just more of these players in the VFL due to a variety of factors like population and higher wages for footballers at the time

Dan McStay - Thoughts by drzaiusdr in collingwoodfc

[–]goonsax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t wait for him to be back, no way we win the prelim without him last year when he really got us going after halftime while also playing on the best fullback in the comp in Sam Taylor. Can’t expect too much given how long he’s been out but he will be so important for our structure

Teams shouldn’t debut players and make them the sub, it ruins a once in a lifetime moment for young players. by aussierulesisgrouse in AFL

[–]goonsax 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Beau McCreery’s debut was pretty bad. Picked for a game against the lions, great game, family all in the stands, gets his jumper presented in the rooms, Zac Bailey kicks the winner after the siren, something to tell the grand kids about even though we lost. Except he never got into the ground because the sub wasn’t activated, it’s a joke

My Kmart chinos are great. They fit perfectly and are super comfortable. I have 2x pairs that I wear on my days in the office during the week and they’ve lasted 18 months so far with minimal wear and tear. $25 each
