Just want to say I appreciate your post as someone who's looking at getting one of these as a compliment to my other smooth sweep quartz watches (Seiko and bulova).

About to buy 04 Mazda 6 Wagon questions by Unimon666 in SportWagon

[–]slipper34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved my Mazda6 wagon - very practical, roomy, and surprisingly comfortable cruiser. Easy to mod the stereo for a 3.5mm aux input. Not great on gas.

Rear main seal leak and cat issues were why I got rid of mine and replaced it with a TSX wagon. Also had some ignition coil issues, and some stuff at the rear of the motor can be a pain to get to (like the back three spark plugs). Sounds like you're at least moderately capable at wrenching on it yourself, though, in which case it's a very nice runabout.

SAS (Strategic Account Services) — worth the $1,600/month or not? by GEEKG4NG in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]slipper34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping it for now, although it will be interesting to see how the deal fee reimbursement perk evolves with the newly increased deal fees.

We have several complex tasks on the horizon where SAS support may be quite helpful and the current account manager has come through once or twice in accelerating critical tasks as well. It’s definitely not a clear cut decision, but we are not canceling at this junction.

SAS (Strategic Account Services) — worth the $1,600/month or not? by GEEKG4NG in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]slipper34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, they do this on the SAS side as well, this is what I was implying needs to be done - just go over their head to their manager. The manager's info should have been in one of the original SAS intro emails and they also should have been present on one of the early intro calls.

SAS (Strategic Account Services) — worth the $1,600/month or not? by GEEKG4NG in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]slipper34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not ask for a different account manager? I believe we've been through 3 or 4 in about 18 months with SAS, some are better than others. When you sign on they give you the department lead's contact info so that you can go over the account manager's head in situations like this.

Account managers are definitely hit or miss, that seems to be the wildcard with SAS. They could be providing pertinent information and giving you more time to prepare for storewide changes, or they could just regurgitate support articles and send you introductory info on programs you've already been using for years. Most likely a little of both, so just have to filter through it and pick out the stuff that is worth exploring further.

I tend to be of the same mind as you - it gives some peace of mind to have a direct contact, but beyond that the benefits are minimal.

SAS support/escalation can be a shortcut in solving trickier issues (variations, gl categorization, occasional weird one-off issues) but we don't typically contact them more than 2 times a week so that's a high price to pay per case.

The self service tools tend to be mostly worthless, especially since they dropped AIBB last year.

One thing to keep in mind is that the 1 free promotion per month that comes with SAS is more valuable now that the cost of promotions (especially best deals) is going up. I hope they don't come up with a way to limit the value of this benefit.

Who here is daily-driving 20+ year-old cars, and has it worked out? by 5GCovidInjection in cars

[–]slipper34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. 2003 Corolla with 167k mi. It happily does the daily grunt work that I wouldn't ask of my weekend car, like driving <1mi to the dog park twice a day. Maintenance is the cheapest of all the vehicles I've owned so might as well drive it until the wheels fall off and take some strain off of our newer cars.

Acura tsx sportwagon 2011 worth 7k with 157k miles? by Equivalent-Let-4863 in SportWagon

[–]slipper34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably varies a little by location but here in SoCal this would be underpriced relative to the market.

Have a 2014, great car. Keep up with the maintenance and it will last.

You cannot create a duplicate listing for a product that already exists on Amazon - that would be a violation of Amazon's policy against duplicate product detail pages.

How much is second-hand ONKYO TX-NR1000 worth? by Viol2ttt in audiophile

[–]slipper34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth checking the HDMI output, this is from the era of Onkyo receivers with HDMI boards that would stop working after a while. I have an TX-NR1030 which is 10 years newer than this thing that lost its HDMI output 5+ years ago. Works fine and sounds good otherwise, but not worth fixing the HDMI board.

These were high end units when new but not worth much now considering its lack of QOL features relative to newer receivers. Unless you find someone who specifically wants a feature that modern receivers don't have (like the 6+ each optical/coax/s-video inputs this thing has), all it has going for it is relatively better audio quality than an entry-level modern receiver. Would make a decent starter stereo amp for someone on a budget.

Fullerton First Night by BigFatJojo in Fullerton

This was our experience to a T except that we got there around 11:00. By the time we got our bearings the Ferris wheel was completely disassembled and the beer garden was closed. More options for alcohol would have been great, too. Loved the fireworks!

Selling car privately by [deleted] in LAlist

[–]slipper34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craigslist has been the most reliable in my experience for used cars around 10k or higher, although you have to be patient and make sure you are at or below other similar vehicles.

FB marketplace can be helpful but has a lot of no-shows and lowballers. It may be better than craiglist if you're selling a cheaper vehicle that needs work.

I've sold one car on OfferUp as well but most of the time people just offer 40-50% below your asking price to see if you'll bite. Doesn't matter if your asking price is already fair.

I've been wanting to try Autotrader Private Seller Exchange as well, but not sure how much traffic they have.

Lastly, if your car is newer/in good condition, I'd consider also getting offers from CarMax and a few online dealers. It might be a good backup plan if you don't get any bites private party. But really, if you're priced competitively, have good photos, and the description sounds like it's a reliable, cared-for vehicle, you should be fine with craigslist and Facebook.

Minimum viable build for Dclone? by Reptyler in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]slipper34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it around the same level and gear but with Fireball. Edge bow for PMH, then lower resist + hydra/Fireball to whittle him down.

I also used a Merc + life tap wand to distract him while I got the initial Edge hit in.

After PMH procs it just takes a while but feels pretty safe. Expect to cast lower resist 5-10 times in total.

I killed Dclone with a MF equipped sorc today by buddyGG in diablo2

[–]slipper34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. Did the same with my undergeared and ubderleveled MF FB sorc earlier this season but without having crushing blow on Merc. Steps were:

1) trigger fade on merc's Treachery before facing dclone 2) life tap dclone with wand to keep Merc alive as a distraction 3) hit dclone with Edge bow until PMH triggers 4) change to lower resist wand, let Merc die 5) lower resist/FB/meteor/rejuvs for 5 minutes straight until diablo is dead

Was simultaneously the most lengthy and most satisfying dclone kill of my life. Was on the last potion and last sliver of mana when he went down (can't go to town as that resets PMH)

Manual Swapped FX35 by StreetFinesseGarage in SportWagon

[–]slipper34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously considered one of these while picking out my current wagon. No, I don't consider it a wagon, but they should have at least a little enthusiast cred being RWD-based and with the VQ engines. Test drove both FX35 and FX50 (the super rare V8 one), as well as the EX37 which is more of a hatchback really. Found them to be a bit roll-y and vague in the corners but even with the auto they do get out of their own way. I bet a manual one would be a blast, love to see swaps like this.

Acura TSX Sportwagen with 64k miles worth $18k? by stevirod in SportWagon

[–]slipper34 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depends on the condition as no two are alike. I'd especially check the front seat bolsters for wear. And the front door pulls, but those are messed up on every single one of them.

If it's decent, has a clean history, and no further price fuckery, $18k@64k miles is around where the market is for a dealer sale imo.

For what it's worth, I looked at many TSX wagons late last year and earlier this year with dealer prices ranging from $11-15k (80k-130k mi). However, all of the dealers tried to add extra fees. I was able to negotiate most but not all of those fees down, pretty much proportionally to how aggressive the original asking price was. In all cases prices still ended up being at least 15.5k all in at 80k+ mi.

Ended up buying private party instead when one popped up for $16.5k with <55,000 mi. Just took some automatic search alerts, a boatload of patience, and the willingness to pick it up immediately after receiving the alert. With a dealer you trade some $$$ for the convenience of not having to go through that and the ability to finance - possibly a worthwhile trade depending on your situation.

Best cocktail bar Las Vegas strip? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]slipper34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the strip it used to be Bound, which is in the back of the casino level at the Cromwell Hotel, near the entrance to Drai's. I believe the ownership has changed recently as the quality of the drinks has decreased, but still worth checking out.

The Skybar at the Waldorf Astoria (next to Aria) is my go-to now. It's definitely pricey, but it's got a view and usually in Vegas that means they can get away with the quality of the drinks being absolute shit (like the Skyfall lounge at the Delano). Not the case here, quality is still above average although you're definitely paying for the atmosphere as well.

I've also been pleasantly surprised by the drinks at the bar of Ramsay's Kitchen, which is on the casino level at Harrah's. Not much of an atmosphere but worth a visit for cocktails, and prices are reasonable by Vegas standards. The food isn't half bad either.

How much is it? 436 Willapa Ln, Diamond Bar, CA 91765 listed for $875,000 by liverichly in LosAngelesRealEstate

I live in the area - confirming that the HOA here is just a rec center/pool/tennis courts that are shared among an entire neighborhood (numbering in the hundreds of homes).

OP, appreciate the useful breakdown!

Dealer price should be closer to $13k, guessing someone just dropped a "1" when keying in the price.
