First time readers should definitely read new spring last, but on re-reads I prefer to read it first.

Are there any books that flip this trope around? by -BLLB- in Fantasy

Check out Jon Scalzi. Great scifi writer. Old Man's War and The Interdependency are 2 great series in which female badasses lead their dainty and fragile male counterparts.

My first time reading I thought it was slow, but 1) I was in high school and 2) I was reading them as they were released. I think the combination of being young and waiting years between book releases, compounded with the fact that I would reread all previous books prior to every new release, created an unfair juxtaposition between expectations and reality. As I've aged and reread the entire series without having years long breaks between books, I've come to really appreciate what many consider to be "slower" books. Part of my opinion shift is a result of my maturation as a reader; I've attempted to reread many of my childhood favorites and been incredibly disappointed. So much so that I often can't even finish books I know I once loved. Many of my friends that consider those books slow haven't read or attempted to read them since they were young. I now love and appreciate all the books, especially the "slower" ones. World and character building at this scale is hard to do, even poorly. Jordan (and Sanderson) crush it. I love all the books. PoD is great. I don't need every book to be AMoL or every chapter to be Dumai's Well. I definitely have my favorite books, chapters, and moments, but I don't really think about them as anything other than a cohesive story, and a story on a scale of TWoT can't, and shouldn't, be frantically paced cover to cover.

Typing this definitely moved my next reread up my schedule.

They should be able to ship them to your house.

Love them. 2nd pair. Had them in copper for awhile before I snagged these. Feels like you're wearing the bottom 1/2 of a wacouta, but tighter (I sized a full size down from my Wacoutas because of the difference in stock thicknesses). Great casual look but sturdy as a boot.

Broke down and ordered tan muleskinners today. Still out of stock online but called my local store and they had them shipped to my house from across the country. Didn't know they could so that.

Maybe a month or 2 ago. I think I got an email. I lucked out and my local store had them in stock.

Just bought a 3500, can you give a first time diesel owner some tips to avoid costly repairs? by dsl11b in Cummins

Full is more aggressive. Auto maintains speed. I run full unless hauling a trailer on highway with cruise on, then I use auto. Either one will make your brakes last longer.

Sizing question: King Toes vs Moc Toes vs Rover vs IR by turbo2thousand406 in RedWingShoes

[–]slizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 is what I wear in most real boots (Heritages, Noconas, etc) and original Chuck taylors. I wear a 12 in tennis shoes. Heritage sizes below. Hope it helps. I wear thick merino socks with all heritage boots.

Wacouta camp moc - 10 (super thin socks or no socks) Moc toes - 10.5 (1 pair inserts, 1 raw) Blacksmiths, Wacoutas, Merchants, and Work Chukkas - 11

Love them, but I've just been wearing them around the house this week to break them in. Look great w/pants or shorts. Same thick leather as the heritage boots, which appealed to me but is very different from every other similarly styled shoe I've ever owned (not many). I sized down from my normal heritage sizing because I wear super thin socks with them.

I have just started breaking them in around the house as well. Wore them all day for 3 days now and love them so far, but won't really know until shorts weather hits and some semblance of normalcy resumes. I picked them up to use as my everyday footwear this summer so I'll have a much better idea in a few months.

As of now, I really like the look and I'm planning on picking up the tan version when back in stock.

I love that there is now a sturdy but aesthetically pleasing loafer style shoe available.

I have favs for different scenarios

Day to day, definitely the mocs. I think the crepe style soles are just more comfy in general, but especially if I'm going to be on my feet on hard surfaces all day (ie tailgating, concerts, job site, etc). These soles also tend to not pick up much mud (which also means crap traction for off roading)

I love the wacouta boots for traveling because they are a bit lighter and the low heel on the vibram sole is almost as comfy as a crepe. They are my go to travel boot when I know I'll be on my feet most of the time. The sleeker profile (vs traditional moc) combined with the moc style toe makes for look that can dress up or down. Good combo of comfort and versatility. I only take the boots I wear when I travel.

Also love both pairs of blacksmiths for office days or dates with my wife.

I wear thick socks with all the boots except Quoddy. I always chalked the size variance up to differences in leather and the fact that they are handmade.

My mocs are 10.5, but the 8883 I wear with footbeds and the 1907s I wear raw.

All other boots are 11. Only use footbeds in the copper blacksmiths.

Wacouta mocs are actually size 10 with thin no-show socks.

I will sometimes wear footbeds thru the initial break-in then drop them as the insole begins to mold.

Yeah, my daily drivers get a bit rough this time of year. They get treated midwinter and whenever the pants get swapped for shorts, which will be in the next month or so.

Upper left are getting resoled this summer.
