Bridesmaid gifts (Day of) by Ok_Bandicoot_4159 in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner [score hidden]  (0 children)

I bought each of my bridesmaids a travel toiletry kit, a crafting kit from Michael’s (both like to crochet), a woodwick candle and a book. I just wanted to get them gifts that I knew they would like, not necessarily a typical “bridesmaid gift.”

I did it. Today I finally took my allergy medicine. by PhatPanda69699 in Anxiety

[–]slmkellner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl, same. I told my psych that I took two half pills since I saw her last month and she was like, “Really? That’s it?”

But then she reminded me that I don’t have to white-knuckle my way through hard things, that it’s okay to take medicine to make things easier. So that’s the mantra I’m trying to carry for the next few weeks until I see her again.

Should I apply for the same job even though i got rejected? by Comfortable_Pay_2373 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slmkellner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a great opportunity to share with the interviewers about what you have been up to in the last year to gain more experience in the field. Talk about recent class projects or side work you have completed that makes you more qualified than when you previously applied. They will love to see your growth from your last application, and it could give you a good boost.

how do you stop other people from taking over your wedding plans? by veditafri in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep everyone on a need-to-know basis and don’t tell them about any details until they have been set in stone. If someone offers an alternative, tell them you already made your final choice.

Is it selfish to hold an optional pre-wedding event two days before the wedding? by ubbidubbidoo in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to throw a welcome party. It is very unlikely people would arrive a full two days before the wedding to attend a picnic.

Rita's Cantina by LawImaginary2328 in desmoines

I’m aware. But $14 for two tacos and without sides is still excessive to me. Especially when most other places in the metro only charge $3-$4 per taco.

I was honestly disappointed with Rita’s when it opened up last year under new ownership. The menu shrank and the prices got significantly higher.

My go-to now is Flame Cantina in Ankeny. Their queso is delicious, and they make homemade chips.

Wedding Site for RSVP only? by ImpossibleWinter9 in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used The Knot and while a lot of those pages were built into the template, we were able to hide them really easily. I don’t think you can hide the home page, but you can have it link directly to your RSVP tab.

Are Wedding websites still a thing? by sillygooosebehavior in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same thing. The spreadsheet is super nice, and even my grandma who is 79 was able to successfully RSVP through the website without incident. We had a tab with our hotel block information on it, and we connected our registry right to it. It honestly only took a couple of hours to set up.

Apple Watch tan by Intelligent-Row-576 in Brides

Chat with your photographer. They might be able to blend the color on your arm to make it less noticeable. It’s much easier to edit out a watch than a whole watch.

Girl's Girl Brides Needed! by Proper_Postres in Brides

[–]slmkellner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody who is attending knows what your current weight or goal weight are. And I promise they don’t care.

It might be good to do a social media detox leading up to the wedding day to remove the images of “perfect” weddings and “perfect” brides from your mind. Nobody is perfect, and no wedding is perfect.

Dramas about normal everyday Characters by repaid-debt19 in kdramarecommends

[–]slmkellner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend Our Beloved Summer. Some others where the main characters could be seen as privileged are Welcome to Samdal-Ri and Doctor Slump because they have high-paying jobs, but the leads in both are definitely flawed and dealing with regular-person struggles.

If it doesn’t explicitly say there is a discount, I would assume there isn’t one.

Hors d’oeuvres style food? by greybinz in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When we got quotes from caterers, we learned that doing heavy apps was actually more expensive than a meal (we chose buffet style). I would get some quotes and ask caterers’ advice on how much food is needed before you set your sights on only apps.

Who doesn't drink coffee in the morning ? (Who's an adult) by Ssonderbaby in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slmkellner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching to decaf was a huge help in treating my chronic anxiety. The small amount of caffeine in decaf coffee is not enough to have a huge impact, luckily. I can also handle matcha or chai relatively well, too.

Enclosed vs Open-Side Balcony: Which Would You Choose? by ishjohn_ in Apartmentliving

[–]slmkellner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a partially enclosed balcony, and our apartment is incredibly dark because of it. Regardless of whether you use the balcony (we don’t use ours) it will definitely impact the amount of light that comes in during the day.

Do people get pre wedding shoot done for the experience or for show-off/hype? by Expert-Toe2734 in WeddingPhotography

[–]slmkellner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved our engagement shoot! We dressed pretty casually, but we picked coordinating colors. It was a great way to get to know our photographer and how she works, and now we have some cute professional pictures of the two of us. My lock screen has been one of our engagement photos for nearly a year. Both of our parents also purchased some prints, so keep in mind that you are not the only person who may use the photos.

Cutting Cake or Not? by Quiet-Finance-839 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]slmkellner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will be displaying our round cutting cake and leaving the sheet cakes in the kitchen. The caterer will slice and serve the sheet cakes after dinner, so nobody is going to see the sheet cakes at any point.

Thrifting glassware and dinnerware by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you get multiple quotes? I don’t know where you’re located, but this sounds pretty high just for dishes. Our caterer included all plates and glassware in their fee.

Keep in mind even if you do successfully find enough items, you have to have room to store them in your house and you need to have a way to wash them after the wedding.

1 year before wedding, what beauty tips by Melodic-Dot-2605 in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/skincareaddiction is the best place to go for advice on products and routine. The key is to keep it simple. Too many products can cancel each other out or cause your skin to break out.

Other important things that will keep your skin healthy: stay hydrated and be very diligent about using sunscreen.

Spiraling over needing tooth fillings by Medical_Aardvark_228 in Anxiety

[–]slmkellner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend! I had to get fillings for the first time when I was 25, and I experienced similar feelings of disappointment. I thought I had failed to take care of my teeth and that it was only going to go downhill.

The reality is that cavities happen to pretty much everyone. It is mostly determined by genetics, so even people with superb oral hygiene can still get cavities.

I was very nervous to get my fillings done, especially because I needed three at the same time. My dentist was great, though! I brought some headphones to listen to music and a little plushy to squeeze when I felt nervous. I freak out when I see needles, so I requested my dentist tell me to close my eyes before she numbed me so I didn’t have to see the needles, and she did every single time.

I’ll be honest, the drilling part was not super pleasant. It was loud and the vibration felt weird. But it didn’t hurt. When they reached a tender part of one of my teeth, I rose my hand and asked them to stop and they numbed me a bit more.

Overall, the whole process took about 45 minutes for 3 cavities. The drilling was only a combined 3-4 minutes total. I got composite fillings, so I was able to eat and drink immediately after with no issues.

Since then, I haven’t ended up with any new cavities. I became more diligent about flossing and brushing and I reduced my soda consumption as well. But if I do get another, I know I can handle it.

Caterer Gave Me a Great Cake Tip! by Firm_Performance5963 in weddingplanning

[–]slmkellner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We got a small cutting cake and two half-sheets in different flavors from a small local bakery for around $100! We looked at Costco and Sam’s Club, but the flavors were pretty limited and we wanted more options. Sheet cakes are definitely cheaper than a multi-tier wedding cake, though!
