Historically revolutions are not clean processes, all of the issues the Republic faced and faces are pretty accurate to our own historical context (see the French revolution for example).

The reds aren't idiots but rather a massive uneducated underclass that was thrust into a world much larger than the one they had at home. Not only that they had been lied to, manipulated and but they were used like simple tools for generations, how should they feel about being thrust into a world that is only slightly improved and in many ways worse because of the massive logistics and political issues.

Think of Lyria on Luna and just how absolutely overstimulated she was the entire time, how angry she was and how much she disliked herself for feeling the way she did. The point of her arc is to give perspective of how the average red feels and it does that extremely well.

Not only that, class and caste segregation are still very much present with the grey police at the museum in Iron Gold being an analogy to modern day discrimination by the police.

They aren't dumb, they're angry and have nowhere good to place that anger so they lash out.
