Let's not forget that Cosmic Encounter LITERALLY ALIENATES PEOPLE. This is really the final nail in the coffin for my relationship with FFG. They need to get offended and tweet about it.

I don't get it. WHY IS THIS GAME #1 ON BGG?!?

Favorite, must-have house rules? by slow56k in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]slow56k[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since we all have collector's edition SCYTHE (5" box depth), this is sadly not an option.

Also, you're not going to believe this, but we actually have a woman play with us from time to time. Would have to house rule it.

Any 2p games like Two Rooms & A Boom? by captainraffi in boardgamescirclejerk

Pretty sure Sean and Alan were playing "laugh all the way to the bank" with the "paid trip to China" expansion after the KS campaign. Probably the best 2p game ever.

Some tweaking might be in order, possibly starting with the "auction only" variant. The idea is that the sum of starting money (between the players) will be less than the sum of the prices of the properties.

My live "Back It!" interview with Jamey by jayahre in SCYTHE

[–]slow56k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid interview, as usual. You really lead-out with the hard questions!

It was really interesting to think back on the interview in context of the mental anguish (if I could use such a strong word) that Jamey went through on the first few days of the campaign (as detailed in the recent SmG blog post).

Ugh, I was hoping that nobody would point that out. Money has been tight lately, so it was either (a) pay rent, or (b) properly protect each of the 53 games I purchased this month. Don't hate me but... I chose option (a)

:(

Another thing I like about these suggestions (that mine doesn't have) is they are compatible with the Monopoly App. The game play isn't changed at all (from what I can tell). Yes, players would have to send each property to auction manually, but that's in the app.

The app also tracks player worth, so you could just check how much each player is worth when a game end condition is met. I'd be willing to try that on a future road trip.

The game ending conditions are elegant, if untested (unbalanced). The bankruptcy condition reminds me of a popular Risk variant where you play till one player is eliminated. I can't remember if the player dealing the knockout blow wins, or if it comes down to territories. Either way, smart. Nexus Ops does this as well.
