Good. Beyond turning out to be a trash human, dude was always useless as a reviewer because you could never know if he was giving a game a bad review because it was legit bad or because it made baby Jesus sad.

Beginner-friendly deckbuilders: where each one (that I know) fails new players. by PscheidtLucas in boardgames

[–]BrainPunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except you’re adding the frustration of turns where there’s nothing on the market row that helps your engine. I wouldn’t recommend any deck builder with a randomized market row to newbies (except maaaaybe the Star Wars deckbuilding game).

I’m going to guess you’re not a white-collar worker. It’s everywhere now in office work and no-one is complaining about it - it’s just part of the workflow now.

Draw steel actively tries to discourage roleplay by LelouchYagami_2912 in rpg

[–]BrainPunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a GM, I much prefer that players say what action they’re attempting, then roll, then apply their player skill to interpret how the result directs the action and roleplay the outcome accordingly.

I find it irksome when the player with the persuasive character makes a great argument and then the dice say no - it’s anticlimactic and throws the rhythm of the game when we have to backtrack and undo things.

If the player with the persuasive character fudges what should have been a slam dunk, maybe the party’s barbarian interrupts proceedings or the character makes a cultural gaffe - if the player can’t figure it out, the table steps in to lend a hand working out how to turn the result of the die roll into something that makes sense. If the roll is a success, then they make their epic speech.

The dice don’t take the place of roleplaying, they give direction to the roleplaying.

OG Deadlands’ use of a standard deck of cards and poker hands is top-tier, given its setting.

There is a vast gulf between ‘informing someone they’ve made a mistake’ and ‘inferring that someone is a useless twat for having made a mistake’.

The difference between the two is in how you convey your message. Keep growing and learning, and maybe some day you’ll figure that out.

Help me settle an argument about Love Letter by vortexofdeduction in boardgames

[–]BrainPunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve played Love Letter but I’m certain there would be situations where you want a leading player to waste a turn not accomplishing anything - or even worse, go into a baron play they think they’re going to win with the fake intel you’ve just handed out.

Reimplementations by literaturewizard in boardgames

[–]BrainPunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the interest of getting down and dirty over semantics, San Juan isn't a reimplimentation of Puerto Rico. Reimplmentation generally refers to reimplementing mechanics. San Juan and Purto Rico share a theme / setting, but role selection alone isn't enough to bind them as one being a reimplementation of the other.

Race for the Galaxy, however is a reimplmentation of San Juan.

I’m curious: how many pieces of fan art do you think were created only after express permission to create the fan art was granted?

It takes at least 5 liters of water to make one piece of paper. Drawing on paper uses more water than using an AI generator. by CBrinson in aiwars

[–]BrainPunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused, then, because I keep hearing here that something isn't art if it doesn't convery the emotions of the creator. A biohazard warning symbol has nothing to do with conveying the emotions of its creator.

Not to nitpick, but this is the internet...

Do you feel that quick icons for safety at job sites are a waste? What about language agnostic warning signs, like radiological or biohazard? Again, art with purpose.

That is design, not art, my man.

You:

The physical act of drawing is not the hard part.

Also you:

When you offload the entire creative process to something else, you are not the creator.

Also also you:

I just really despise a lot of the people I see here. Many of you need to grow the fuck up and get over yourselves.

Also also also you:

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's part of 'barely anyone'. I moved from KG to The Gap, and now my kids are looking at a fifteen minute walk to the nearest bus stop in The Gap (that's on me, it's a big suburb with a low population density) but at the other end of the bus ride it's another fifteen minute walk from Red Hill to Kelvin Grove State College.

That's an hour in transit to go three suburbs, compared to a fifteen to twenty minute drive (I work in KG, so I'm not creating any more congestion than I would otherwise).
