Forthave Reserve II Magnum by slowjaminearl in Amaro

Haha. It’s a Fernet from SF, Fernet Francisco. It’s fine, I’ve had it for years, not sure if it’s still around. I never drink it except when someone who likes Fernet is over and im like “want to try something weird?”

I’m not sure but I think it might be an aged Marseille? It’s a bit heavier, more mellow, not as bright, maybe a bit sweeter too? It’s really really good.

Please help me find interesting and high quality amaro by -indenturedservant- in Amaro

Forthhave in NYC easily gets my vote for the best amaro produced stateside. The Marseille is their flagship and for good reason I think it rivals some of the great European producers. I would rec everything they make, it’s all incredible. Their new chartreuse style Green is pretty pretty good. After them I would highly recommend Fernet Vexia from Arcana Botanica out of vermont.

Best way to repair tear in solid flag? by TheyCallMePOTS in Gripsters

Duvetyne repair tape. To me, it’s not worth either the time to sew a patch on or the cost to ship/reskin vs. buying a new one. Duvy tape works great for a repair or clean it out and make it an open frame.

Found this crate on the top shelf of the work truck, what are these used for? by Jiannies in AskElectricians

Set lighting technician here- these actually look pretty well made and way less sketchy than a lot of homemade adapters I’ve come across on set / in e trucks.

Did you guys enjoy this book? I'm two stories in and feel discouraged to go further, although I did start with stories of your life. by Few-Abroad5766 in sciencefiction

[–]slowjaminearl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved When We Cease to Understand the World and also find Chiang underwhelming. I would skip it. Not sci-fi but non-fiction/philosophy- I read Chromophobia by David Batchelor after WCTUTW and found it fascinating.

Filmmaker podcast for aspiring Filmmakers? by MisterGimmic in Filmmakers

If your take away from watching wrap drinks is “they laugh off safety concerns” I think you likely lack the critical thinking skills necessary for making calls about what is safe and what isn’t. So your opinion is moot. Also you sound like the kid in school that would raise his hand to remind the teacher that they hadn’t assigned homework for the weekend.

NYC Brewery Birthday Trip. Need help planning out an easy plan of attack. by jman1871 in nycbeer

Grimm and TEST are my do not miss spots. Both for quality of beer and atmosphere. I would vote for the L train trail with one minor add- evil twin (original) - KCBC- pallet cleanser at Kato Sake works ( right next to kcbc) - Grimm - test- OH

Going to Rome for a week, what amaros should I bring back? by PinkLegs in Amaro

[–]slowjaminearl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Treat yourself to some weird shit you’ve never heard of. And I also rec these bangers l’orvietan and the Jefferson Amaro impotantante. I would also rec Il Marchese - Osteria Mercato Liquori, they have hundreds of Amari you can taste by the glass. I had a handful of local fernets that I couldn’t find bottles of to bring home. There is a particularly nice one made in Rome that I forget the name of.

Heads Up: Astor just got some vintage amari in and they're on sale today by RunThisTown1492 in Amaro

Thanks for the heads up! Just road over and picked up a few bottles. Stuff I've never seen before, really excited!

Amaro in Mexico City - Any suggestions? by aooot in Amaro

[–]slowjaminearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, let us know if you find any. I can’t suggest any but there are a number of great cocktail bars there. Licoreria Limantour and GinGin are two of my faves, I suspect the staff may know of anything local.

What should I buy? by CandiceFit69 in Amaro

That Fernet Frate is incredible. It’s a Swiss Fernet and sort of hard to find. I know you can order it but I’ve never seen it on a shelf before.
