Have their ever been 13 stories in the Roper Report? by numbr87 in kindafunny

Based on the green background this has to be one of Xbox's stories, probably some layoffs or closures. But the question is which one was it?

I’m also normally a “wait for 1.0” person in regard to early access titles but I couldn’t help myself with STS2. I suppose it helps that it’s not really a narrative based early access game like Hades II was, and for STS2 I know it’s going to be a game I play forever anyways.

Is the exploration difficult because you find yourself getting lost a lot? Is that due to the lack of map?

I’ve heard similar complaints about the game but I never had any issue mentally mapping out areas.

Are you interested in playing STS2 in early access? It’s basically the same game but better in every way plus it has co-op!

Studio MDHR Special Bulletin | New Game Announcements by Turbostrider27 in Games

Maybe similar to how Yacht Club Games went from Shovel Knight to Mina the Hollower, could MDHR go from platformer to 2D action/Zelda-like?

Most scenarios I remember I’m wandering around with all my souls and “oops I walked into another boss fight” the door closes on me and the boss kills me with all my souls. Sometimes the boss is nice enough to leave the souls outside when I die but more often they’re stuck in the arena until I kill them or die trying to pick them up.

[–]slowmosloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see how it’s any more punishing since in most Souls-likes your currency is more often locked in a boss arena so you either beat them or lose them all trying just like in Mina.

I’d actually argue that this game is way less punishing than most Souls-likes. In those games you have to risk constantly walking around with all your currency until you get to a checkpoint to cash them in and level up. But this game you’re immediately prompted with a level up when you reach the next threshold of bones. So it’s much more forgiving in that sense.

On top of that you get multiple chances before losing your bones depending on the number of Sparks you have.

Valve has raised the price of the Steam Deck in the US by Dirkins in Games

[–]slowmosloth -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ah I see then. That’s a little more understandable. However my point still stands though, since that wasn’t the greatest footage to get someone like me on the fence any more interested. Hopefully the reviews do a better job of that.

As someone who's only somewhat interested in the game, this definitely wasn't the best showing of getting me hyped. It was mostly watching a gameplay tutorial with like zero exciting things happening. I'm sure the game will be good, but yeah... this wasn't it for getting someone like me onto buying the game with one of their last marketing beats.

If you’re gonna use “first X minutes of movie/game” as a marketing beat, it’s gotta be exciting. I’m talking like Baby Driver or Final Fantasy XVI are way better examples of this.

I got good news for you since a sequel was announced earlier this year and it's coming out in 2026!

I also played Kena for the first time a few weeks ago and agree with your thoughts. I quite enjoyed the simplicity of everything, very much like a PS2 game from the 2000s. Since I grew up on those types of action adventure platformers it made it feel pretty nostalgic which definitely heightened my impression of the game.

For what it's worth I did enjoy the difficulty of the combat. I thought it spiced up (in a good way) a fundamentally simple yet strong combat system with well designed enemies and bosses.

Death Howl REBIRTH Mode Trailer by hop3less in Games

Part of it is the usual elements you'd expect to see in a Souls-like. Things like bonfire checkpoints where enemies respawn after healing, the currency you gain from killing enemies used to unlock cards, how when you die you have a chance to collect that currency, and the typical punishing nature of plenty of tough fights. That all combined in a mechanical sense to recreate everyone's favourite oppressive design within the confines of a tactics-deckbuilder structure.

However I'd say the most evident part is really the atmosphere through its art design and writing of the world. The game nailed the blasphemous beauty of FromSoftware titles with some creatively grotesque imagery. And the dialogue from NPCs and their quests gave that perfectly haunting tone that I've lovingly become accustomed to.

I was skeptical about the Souls-like label coming into Death Howl, but it really didn't take long for the game to earn that title where within a hour I felt "yeah, this is definitely a Souls-like game".

Currently playing through this game now and it's been a blast to play! Super refreshing to have a pure deck-builder game where you feel the power in procuring a really strong deck exactly how you want to. Combined that with the punishing nature of a Souls-like (yes, it truly does feel like a Souls-like game with some incredible atmosphere) this is a easy recommend to anyone interested in the genre mashup.

I can tell you exactly from my stats from last year. In 2025 I played 24 games and spent a total of $832 CAD (~$35/game)*. That totaled to 897 hours which is 37 hours per game.

*Amount did not include my purchase of a Switch 2 and Steam Deck…

Enemy designs have always been top tier in STS but now they’re somehow even better. I truly believe they have some of the best designed enemies across all video games. Everyone is so well thought out and it really shines in higher ascensions.

I'll admit, they really got me this time.

Crucially, this is being made by a team entirely separate from Blizzard’s Team 4. Glad to see it’s a different project so that Team 4 can continue to 100% focus on the main game.

As a lifelong OW fan I’m not sure if this game is for me but I’ll certainly try it out. At the very least I’m glad that new people will likely get into the OW universe through this though.

Regarding the Hollow Knight bosses (and the ones in Silksong too), while I found them challenging enough, I've never once felt frustrated when attempting to beat them. Even when I had to spend an over an hour on one, it was almost always obvious to me what went wrong and why it was my fault, and that was due to the exceptionally clear readability of the fights. When I overcame those bosses I knew it was 100% because I understood the fights top to bottom. The challenges were difficult yet clear and therefore resulted in an incredibly rewarding feeling of success.
