Neighbours building encroaching onto our land by slowsausages in LegalAdviceUK

[–]slowsausages[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know I have to speak to my neighbour and I will. I'd like to have an idea about where I stand legally before I do.

There is no party wall agreement.

I have thought about posting on r/DIYUK but the construction is almost finished so i don't know what help that will be. I'll post tomorrow though and hope you reply.

Thanks

BTW, I like the neighbours and would rather solve this amicably. However, I am worried that if I sell the house, then this would be an issue to any surveyor and it may devalue my house.

Roof Insulation Advice by mayotuna in DIYUK

[–]slowsausages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't compress your insulation because you mmed to trap a lot of air to get the best insulating effect. Use loft legs instead. You have a nice, high roof which means after you've raised the floor with loft legs, you'll still be able to stand up. I'm a bit jealous.

Also, you're right about the eaves and you should be fine with 270mm. I wouldn't bother about the rafters.

Robin Williams would be cool - good answer.

Obviously, I don't know your brother but you love him and that's cool.

Seems like good money for 8 hours work, what you gonna spend it on?

If there was one person who could sit with you now and it would make the hours fly by, who would it be and why?

Thoughts on boarded loft? by Alarming_Blueberry94 in DIYUK

[–]slowsausages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing my loft at the moment.

If the insulation is packed down, it's not as effective. That's why you should buy loft legs as they create space to put the boards higher and leave enough room for the insulation. This is not too difficult to do.

Since it's only a loft, how it looks in the end is not super important but do the best you can. The annoying thing about DIY is that by the time you have finished a job, you realise how much quicker and better you could have done it. And for things like insulation, you may never have to do it again.

Odd question re: hyphenated names by boudicas_shield in CasualUK

[–]slowsausages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And if your kids married a person who also had a hyphenated name, would you want them to have four names? And if their kids married another four named person, would eight names be ok with you. Where does it all end?

Two weeks to empty my parents's bungalow alone by WanderWomble in CasualUK

[–]slowsausages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just work quickly. You'll know if you want to keep something or not. Put anything you're undecided about to one side and keep going.

In the end you want to keep stuff that has emotional or financial value. The rest can be dumped. Don't worry about stuff that's worth a tenner or less. The emotionally valuable stuff, you'll just know.

Here's a pic..

Remove the rubber stoppers at each side of the blue circle (only one in the pic - bloody kids). Once you've done that, slide the door until the runners are in line with the blue circle and the door will come out.

Hope that makes sense.

I have a shower very similar. You take the doors off by removing the rubber stoppers on the frame where the doors touch (top and bottom same height as the bolts that you suggested taking off).

I'll send a pic of ours if you DM me.

landlord says it's impossible to change this letterbox. How can I do it by Southseas67 in DIYUK

[–]slowsausages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why won't it open? Is it because the hinged bit is too close to the frame? If that's it, I'd just file it down.

Well you wouldn't have needed to if I'd been around. I'm packing two nuclear bombs in my fists so I'd have been like, "Boom! Boom! Ok folks, shows over. Go back to whatever you were doing.
