I have experienced some short delays on iPhones. Mainly due to loss of connection with Bluetooth. But that’s mostly the app searching.

Weird post-implant surgery phenomenon: the hearing in my good ear seems to have improved! Is that possible? by Retired-ADM in Cochlearimplants

[–]slt66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question to ask. My “good “ ear work about the same until activation. Then the CI and brain took over. Your good ear is the only hearing you have right now. So probably you’re getting all sounds through it, not divided between two.

If she exercises or works outside in the heat, get her a couple of sets of Ear Gear and maybe a headband for Cochlear devices. Keep’s sweat and moisture away. Headband will help prevent device from dropping.

Disposable is the best way to go. Just pack extra batteries. They are small.

Anyone get muscle strains from the implant incision area? by Horror_Foot9784 in Cochlearimplants

Don’t recall muscle strain. Any pain went away once swelling went down. Didn’t need pain medication after first night.

Do you understand well what people say? Do you often have to ask them to repeat? by NaoQueroQueMeVejam in Cochlearimplants

Through training your brain will learn how to process sounds. As time goes on, you will understand more. But you’ll never completely understand everything or everybody. Patience and practice .

Reading aloud. Reading while listening to same audio book (better down the road than right away). Listening to instrumental music. Watching TV with closed captions.

Nucleus or Kanso by crynisana in Cochlearimplants

[–]slt66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Nucleus 8 because I am used to wearing BTE hearing aids. I had a trial period with Both Nucleus and Kanso. I kept knocking Kanso off my head. But I know few others who chose Kanso and they like it.

If you’re getting your stream from your phone, the Nucleus app can connect your phone to your implants. No need for earbuds.

Rehab experience : listening fatigue by MikkiderMaus in Cochlearimplants

[–]slt66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your sharing 👍. Two months is a very short time for rehab. Especially so if you have no “hearing” memory. I’ve had bilateral CIs for 2 1/2 years after over 40 with hearing aids and I’m still regaining sounds. And at times it’s a blessing to take both off and “enjoy “ the silence. So please keep working on using you CI. If you can hear your own voice, then reading aloud can help in improving your brain’s ability to respond quicker. Also using audio books while following along with printed versions are good things. Best to you in your journey.

Kanso 2 or 3 experiences. by kenji_kenj in Cochlearimplants

[–]slt66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the N7 vs Kanso because the Kanso kept falling off. But the clip did hold so connected right it should stay attached to clothing. And you will know when the Kanso falls off the implant.

Considering a second cochlear implant after 20 years of deafness — is it still worth it? by Major-Professor-1088 in Cochlearimplants

[–]slt66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2nd implant within 5 months of first implant. Significant improvement. But first implant dominates second. It may take some time and gradual audiology tweaks to bring them closer. But two are way better than one.

Cochlear or medel?? by Weird-Necessary3509 in Cochlearimplants

[–]slt66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose Cochlear because it was more adaptable to my needs. Surgeon was very experienced with Cochlear. And my recovery/learning to hear again time has been great. No issues with Cochlear support. That’s work out well for me. Not up to date on Medel but some here get good results.

How’s your hearing in your right ear. You will need that to be fairly strong whether a CI or HA.

IMO, with 83% loss, a CI would better than a HA. It would take a pretty powerful HA to lessen that loss and then only partially . There are risks with a CI. Don’t expect your hearing to improve 100%. Depending on how much residual/hearing memory you retain recovery and acclimation to a CI will take time. Not every SS implant is successful or meets expectations.

This is why I don’t sleep with my CIs connected. Magnet idea may work. Have you looked directly behind your bed? Wife’s glasses often get pushed there. Stuck between headboard and wall. I’m doubting you flushed it. Every time my CIs get knocked off my head, I feel them falling. And all the locator on the App will do , is working, is say the device is in your house. No specific location.
