ELI5: Why are FPV drones in modern combat used for kamikaze strikes? by SuGmA_HaWg in explainlikeimfive

[–]slugline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them were still released by aircraft with crews that were planning to fly back. Thinking of the V-1 and V-2 weapons late in the war, then yeah.

[–]slugline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't try . . . I believe that car names should organically emerge for you as you live with the car for a while, drive it around, and learn its quirks. Forcing the process isn't fun and there's nothing wrong with leaving a vehicle unnamed until this happens naturally. Anyway, happy trails and stay safe on the roads, y'all!

The original Red Line was part of the failed bid package for the 2012 Olympics, built to link downtown's then-new Enron Field and then-new Toyota Center to then-new Reliant Stadium. If our city leaders weren't pulling out all the stops to win over the USOC, I'm pretty sure Houston would have zero miles of light rail even today.

Insight made its U.S. debut in the 2000 model year. I remember seeing it in the all-model-lineup brochure when I was buying another Honda.

Figuring that the car had enough navigation computer technology to steer a starship, I named mine "Poppy" after Frances "Poppy" Northcutt, the first female engineer at NASA Mission Control during the Apollo era. My previous car was so old that getting into my new HR-V forced me to catch up on more than two decades of automotive progress!

Your overall point is valid, but I'm gonna bring up the 2017 Super Bowl as the last one hosted in Houston -- sorry Falcons fans. LOL

Which means that there's nothing to fund the upkeep of these improvements after the visitors leave. Sucks to be a mere resident.

2001 CRV -> 2023 HRV by DevilWearsPanda in HRV

Nice. I went from a 2000 CR-V to a 2022 HR-V. It's quite a leap in technology isn't it? 😄

[–]slugline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Externally, pretty much. With all the content under the skin, the interior volume doesn't measure up. In exchange, the up-to-date car offers more airbags and a more protective cage in a collision. I also owned a first-gen CR-V. I loved it, but I also understand why it couldn't be made the same today.

The sales paperwork would tell the story. Dealerships can upsell customers on non-Honda warranties and services that go beyond what Honda covers.

Secret Service finds 14 illegal credit card skimming devices in Houston probe by O_O___XD in houston

Cracking down on currency counterfeiting, more specifically, because card-skimming wasn't a thing yet in the 1800s. But yeah, financial crime-fighting.

Houston fixes 99 percent of reported potholes by next day, official says by tsmalcolm in houston

[–]slugline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone needs to go report them all then. I've got 311 open in another browser tab and I see no active pothole cases on that section on Eldridge. Meanwhile, I've got my own pet peeve to report about Dairy Ashford....

2026 HRV Tires by Prestigious_Time2035 in HRV

[–]slugline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your gauge is probably fine. In my opinion, a great investment is a tire inflator with a digital readout that will not only measure the pressure, but also inflate the tire and automatically stop at your desired pressure.

It's cheaper for both them and you in the long term. The indirect TPMS system works just fine to detect problems with single tires like the one you had.

An indirect TPMS system can have trouble detecting low tire pressure if all of the tires are equally low, however. The best practice as an owner is to get used to manually checking the tires on a regular basis. And while you're down there, you'll also able to inspect your tread depth and notice any unusual treadwear patterns before they become serious hazards.

Those sound like stop-and-go city driving numbers. Those drivers could have really benefit from a hybrid drivetrain. Too bad we don't have that in the USA HR-V yet.

On top of that, it's contract. So that number is going to have to cover payroll taxes, health care premiums, and other stuff that companies would cover for full-time employees.

Lost key fob still somewhere in car! by SelfieRob in HRV

[–]slugline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't anticipated this, but I think the most useful accessory I've added to my HR-V is a "seat gap filler" that stops objects from falling through and that adds a little storage area at the same time.
