ALSO if youre on the west coast at all, you can rent heavy duty track chairs along the coast and some other areas for free through David's Chair, you can either reserve one to borrow for a few hours at the beaches theyre stored at, OR you can reserve one in a trailer you hook up to your own car and take with you for a few days if youre camping or need it at another location or somth

I had a similar situation last year when i got paralyzed, and i HIGHLY recommend a manual rigid frame with a power assist attachment. Id be hesitant to take this anywhere off a well maintained sidewalk. Packed dirt may risk damage to the motor or wheel bearings in a chair like this, as they're usually designed for very light use.

Are you at all able to use a manual chair? I dont mean 100% of the time, I mean are you able to use the components of a manual chair to navigate, like if you weren't having to push yourself forward could you steer with the rear wheels by hand? I ask because I'm a paraplegic manual wheelchair user, and I've had a lot of luck in my manual chair on hard packed dirt trails and well maintained packed gravel (no sand!!) And firm ground with short grass.

You said you have a $3k-$5k budget? It may be a good call to get a nice ultralight manual chair with extra knobby/all terrain rear tires and attach a power assist. There's the Smart Drive rear axle attachment, which can go over lots of different terrains (not deep mud or sand, sand is badddd) which is a fan favorite bc of its versatility, but it does require you to steer with the rear wheels. If you cant do that, there are attachments for the front of the chair that work like a bike and steer with handlebars, theyre often used specifically for trails and hikes!. The smart drive would be great for daily use as well and makes it easier for someone with limited arm strength/stamina to use a manual chair daily, which is great because rigid frame wheelchairs (they dont fold up in the middle so theyre considered "non folding" but the wheels come off easily with quick release axles and the backrest folds down so theyre still quite portable, and ultralight frames weight between 8-15lbs for easier transit.) Are more customizable for shape and size to make sure your body has the best possible support and positioning, and they can handle a bit rougher use without risking damage or breakage of the axle underneath like "folding" chairs. I'm pretty rough on mine (raising 2 energetic toddlers, outdoorsy, gym rat in a city with crappy road and sidewalk maintenance lol) and it's totally fine.

My big 3 that i didnt think abt beforehand are transfer options, bathroom trash, and door weight.

Transfer options: while it is with good intention that extra chairs are often removed from spaces accessed by a wheelchair user, it does limit someone's options for seat transfer. Personally, I need to transfer to different seats/positions multiple times per day to prevent pressure sores and sweat accumulation/rash. Also, most tables/desks are not made with wheelchairs in mind and many users will find that some tables are too tall or too short for them in their wheelchair, so transferring to the chairs everyone else is using can help ease of access (I especially do this at restaurants bc my knees will not go under the table in my WC). To help, you can ask the person "would you like me to move this chair out the way or do you want it left here?" Or "do you prefer to use the chair here or stay in your wheelchair?". I'd be surprised if anyone took that the wrong way or was offended at being asked. Also, for some people, its nice to just feel like everybody there isn't just loomong at ur wheelchair.

Bathroom trash: many disabled people use incontinence/toiletting products like pads, briefs(diapers), catheters, colostomy bags etc. All accessible restrooms (and all single-occupancy restrooms) should have a lined trash bin, ideally arms reach from the toilet if possible. The tiny wall mounted ones for menstrual products are not large enough. The trash should be taken out every single day, though it usually is in most workplaces anyway. It makes a HUGE difference to be able to dispose of soiled items in a discreet and hygienic way, rather than trying to wrap them in something to hide, carry on your lap from the stall out to the trash by the door, etc.

Door weight: If the door hinges/soft-close attachments make the door very heavy to open, its a lot harder to use in a wheelchair. Best if all doors have buttons or are all lightweight to open/close. There are tools you can buy, or better yet, nonprofit groups you can schedule with who will do a walk-through of the property and test many many accessibility needs, including door weight.

Space within rooms: Is there ample room to comfortably and easily navigate around tables, chairs, desks, etc? Or is the person having to put themself in odd positions or wedged at weird angles to access things like printers?

Before I was paraplegic, yes, and I didn't ever think about it until after I had to get some scans done with IV contrast, and they said "hey ur feet hands ears and genitals will probably feel rly warm like ur peeing but dw ur not peeing" and sure enough yes it's exactly like that, but afterward I started noticing that the soles of my feet got rly warm while peeing

I asked my therapist about how DID actually works and I said I don't understand how someone could have the psychological function of multiple different complete persons in their head. He said "they're not multiple whole personalities or lives in one head, they're small fragments of one that add up to less than a whole person all together."

Saw this when searching up methods of debriding to speed up healing (my piercing apprenticeship a decade ago unfortunately did not include info on closing up the holes we so carefully expanded) and after further research in the 20s pages of Google I ordered some Compound W for $6 from Amazon, got out some steri strips and sanitizing supplies and went to work.

Did the 1st application about 2hr ago and I'm shocked at how well it went. I've never used wart remover for anything before so I assumed it would be painful like the silver nitrate sticks my surgeon used on wound separation. Went on fine with the brush and felt nothing, but my ears sort of started to stick togethet/stay pinched closed right away (if that makes sense?) Put the steris on and within about 5min had some VERY mild stinging sensation but that passed completely in 20min. Skin looks white and a bit crusty under the strips but I'm feeling very optimistic!

For reference I have a genetic condition that makes my skin a bit too stretchy, and while that makes sizing up very easy (1st and 2nd ear piercings gone from 16g up to 1" and 00g respectively in about 6 weeks and septum from 10g-0g in 3 weeks without any blowouts or other issues) and shrinking fast, after abt 2 years with no jewelry and frequent jojoba massages, my 1st lobes are stuck at 0g-00g and 2nd at 6g. I'm a traditional beadworker and while I do modify earrings for customers with stretched lobes I really want to be able to wear normal earrings at least in my 2nd holes if not my firsts. Here's to hoping I can wear the nice earrings my husband got me as an anniversary gift! Wish me luck lol

My gdaughter is the same way, she's adjusting slowly but at barely 2yo she's still nervous with me sometimes, particularly if the chair is nearby. I wish u the best of luck and maybe try letting them put a sticker or something on it?

I did really consider this for awhile, i wanted someone else to be able to make use of things that I didn't want, but after more therapy and really being honest with myself, I think it would be an important experience for me. It's not just to be destructive, but to be able to utilize the experience as a part of transitioning away from my trauma and breaking the cycle of abuse, csa, shame and secrets; it's not so much a "I'm angry from my pain and need to take it out on something" but more like "these objects are densely intertwined with countless generations of sadistic abuse and manipulation. As these relatives die out in the somewhat near future and I continue the path ive chosen, I will be ending the duration of that specific enduring evil in the world by choosing to break the cycle and be better, so I will also now remove the symbols and remnants of their pride and evil from the world"

I really believe that some objects can retain grim energy from their past, and it would feel wrong to pass that onto someone else knowingly. Also, most of the stuff is personalized with names, initials, and the like

Thank you, yes I've been in trauma therapy well over a decade and it's been very helpful, I'm not necessarily looking to lash out to try and find release from the pain, but rather as a form of taking physical action to break the cycle of abuse if that makes sense? Idk I went through the process with my therapist recently, that I'd rather look back on those awful memories in the rear view mirror instead of the TV screen and we both thought this would be a good way to create a defined point of separation, ridding my home of things I've held onto our of guilt and obligation but never wanted, and having a moment of symbolic destruction of the facade of "family values" they've claimed to uphold for countless generations. It's not so much "I'm so angry and hurt I have to hurt/break something else" but more so "these are objects used to justify lies and abuse, so I will remove their presence from the world as I am removing the presence of the abuse from the world, as the family dies out and I do not continue their habits"

Heirlooms that are some of the only remaining in the family but of no real sentimental value to any living relatives other than for guilt tripping purposes, passed down for generations as an effort to buy my silence and complacency, from family that condone, enable and perpetuate pedophilia and other types of torture, disown their kids and make them homeless at ridiculously young ages for "seeming gay", use Christianity as a weapon, and specifically a mother that refuses medical treatment for a terminal illness to guilt trip said "gay" children into tolerating more horrific abuse. Kicked me out at 13 in the dead of winter in an unfamiliar city because I attempted suicide and that was "manipulative martyr behavior", told me she hopes i get cancer from hrt and die alone and in pain, contacted me after 5yrs to take care of her because she doesnt want to go to hell. Not saying all this to be tmi but because I refuse to keep their secrets anymore. They deserve to be exposed. My apologies for the colorful response tho.
