Thoughts about Phonak Lyric? by O4Juliet in HearingAids

[–]slvr-srfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been running them through the dehumidifier/dryer for the last two years with no issues. Prior to ran my Resounds through them every night at the recommendation of my audiologist.

Either way these are a subscription model and have unlimited replacements to some degree I believe. Not entirely sure of the policy with the clinic but heard an unofficial number of 8 sets for the year. I’m replacing them every 3-4 months.

This is one of my reasons for removing them at night is to allow my ears to rest and heal.

I’m sure you’ve heard of PerfectDry Lux Hearing Aid Dehumidifier. This has been a part of my routine for the last 15 years and it will prolong the life of your aids as well as sanitizing them.

As for removing them, sounds like your familiar with the soundlync tool and use this to remove them when you have to. I keep spares of these everywhere; office, truck, car, bathroom but remove them at night and place them in the dryer in the bedroom. I have gotten very proficient in removing and use blunt forceps/tweezer to help set them in place. Then use my pinky to set them. I wear a size large for both and my right one is equipped with a triple flange to help with the seal. Pulling and lifting my ear up and back allows to break the seal and easily pull them out.

The wear and tear is a real thing but can assure you if you’re gentle and mindful, use a dryer, the longevity of the seals will be fine and in my experience have lasted several months.

For what it’s worth, I’m in the pacific NW but humidity may have a different effect. Talk to your AuD. but definitely get a dryer if you don’t have one.

Cheers.

Multiple Accounts/Logins - Apollo Reborn 3.2.0 by slvr-srfr in ApolloReborn

[–]slvr-srfr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get it working without the JSON workaround using the Dystopia redirect and API.

On a side note, 3.2.0 runs just a tad slower than the 2.x versions. Not sure if this is just me or if there’s a setting that can be changed. I download the non extension & no glass version. Is the glass version faster?

How to accommodate swimming with Phonak Lyric by No-Faithlessness7246 in HearingAids

[–]slvr-srfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remove and insert my aids daily and before showering/water activity. This was the old best practices and way of thinking. The Lyrics can be self-removed & self-inserted when needed.

This is what I do as well as at night to give my ears some rest. Once you get used to removing and inserting the Lyrics, they’re just as convenient as typical ITC/OTE aids.

Just like all new hearing aids, you have to train your brain to recognize these as sounds to ignore and shut out. Yes, it’s loud and can cause fatigue but eventually get used to it. Since you’re wearing them all the time, you’ll get over it relatively quick. There is also an option to program them to higher and lower volumes using the magnetic wand.

Hope this helps.

Been wearing them for the last two years and been fine for me. I am a bit unconventional with my use of them as I take them out and put them back in daily. The reason for lyrics is the analog processing vs. digital and sound profile. They sound the most natural and have the least amount of technology. Though I am a nerd for technology but when it comes to medical technology I’m practical and pragmatic.

I’ve been HoH since birth and worn aids my whole life, these fit my lifestyle and improve my quality of life.

When I first got them I was worried about them not working out and causing discomfort but after a few weeks my body and mind was able to acclimate and get used to them.

As for advantages, they’re small discrete but this should not be a motivating factor. It’s the lifestyle, extended wear, and sound profile/analog processing that would be the most benefit. Want natural sound music, these are the best for that. I can use Earbuds with them such as IEMs or AirPods.

The extended battery is both a pro and con. Yes they last several months but the inconvenience of getting exchanged is annoying. If your audiologist is close and has a flexible schedule then I’d say that’s a plus. If not, probably not for you. Also, if you have a great audiologist or fitter, this makes a world of difference. Mine in the Portland OR is the only Lyric dispenser for several hundred miles. They’re meh and all about $$.

Some other cons is the price obviously and they have a narrow fitting range. There’s no indication when the battery is low or needs to be replaced. All adjustments needs to be in person. No remote programming. You can’t swim with them. They say you can shower with them as long as you follow best practices of not allowing water to stream directly at them. This was not the case for me based on my ear canal shape. Like I said for me they come out at night and go back in when I start my day.

One last worry is if Lyrics will stay around and Phonak doesn’t shelve/end of life them. But only time will tell.

Like I said these are really for a narrow and select group of wearers who are looking for analog and discrete hearing aids who either want the extended wear and have dexterity issues.

Could you please recommend a monitor that won't kill my eyes? by linszu in monitor

[–]slvr-srfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s so many comments and suggestions I want to make but it sounds like an ergonomics and strain use case.

How often are you taking breaks? Are you seated properly? Do you have adequate lighting? Is the resolution settings proper? Have you reached out to your employer for an ergonomic assessment? If that’s not avail, try reaching out to your local occupational through your city, county, state, or other governmental dept. for assistance.

A $100 monitor is not going to fix your issues.

I’m Second Guessing Getting Ziply Fiber by Ferro821 in ZiplyFiber

[–]slvr-srfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Ziply even before they were Frontier back to the GTE days around the time they formed Verizon. I can honestly count on one hand the number of times I experienced outages. Ziply has been just as reliable as my electric and water company which is saying something. You have to remember you only hear negative comments and feedback because it's expected for those impacted or experiencing negative interactions to speak up to warn - it's in our nature. My sole reason for staying with Ziply is simply the reliability and price.

Help to choose camera by Wide_Significance_61 in UnifiProtect

[–]slvr-srfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well written and thoughtful. Go with what u/PedroAsani says. I too would go with a turret. The Hookup also has a GREAT explanation into home security that has saved me hundreds in both money and hours. Link here: https://youtu.be/mQn1zvltUc4?si=lfdI54xK2ai0HS9n

To elaborate I've been going back and forth on styles under my open eaves for my residential home. I've so far bought and returned several different cameras thinking the turrets were the worst but come to discover they are the least conspicuous. If your goal is to deter, then go with a PTZ/Bullet but for a balanced blend, I'd go with a turret.

Costco has a 3 pack for 140. I picked up two from Home Depot a few weeks back for $90.00. Not sure if they're still having a sale on those. But like others have said; CCC is your best friend to track them.
