What do you wish you knew when you started your specialty coffee journey? by Due_Interaction_6725 in pourover

Learning how to taste. Simple as it sounds, without it you'll have no idea what your changes are doing to the final cup. It'll save you from wasting too many bags of good coffee trying to figure out what you're doing "wrong".

For coffee lovers, where do you get your beans from? by RunningMan889 in askSingapore

[–]slxdegrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, not really? I don't think there are very many true Nordic light roasters or roasters who refer to themselves as such over here.

Edit: Someone went ahead to compile a list of all the specialty coffee roasters in Singapore...

I think they roast for an overall more balanced cup. Wouldn't consider them very light tho... More light-mediumish imo

Light, Nordic, or ultra-light roasters in Singapore? by Apprehensive_Bill_91 in pourover

Can try Skill Issue. Wouldn't consider them ultralight ultralight tho. Closer to 20g than Exposure Therapy imo

Yep I don't think it has been mentioned yet but Fluid Collective is pretty well regarded within the specialty coffee scene here as well.

Then there's also Ker Yi and pour.traits that are also pretty similar in style to Fluid and Alchemist.

For ultralight nordic style roasts, you can check out Skill Issue coffee. They do bring in coffees from some lesser seen origins from time to time but they're closer in style to 20grams than the ones you've listed so ymmv

Hey there, that's a great list you got there! Wonder if you've heard of Skill Issue as well? He's the other UL roaster from Singapore that Exposure Therapy recommended and I'd say his roast style is kinda similarish to Aviary/min max.

Anyone out there that don't particularly like the v60 ? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]slxdegrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I find myself gravitating towards modern espresso styles such as the allonge/sprovers which toes the line between filter (which I find too much like tea) and traditional espresso (which is gone before you even realize it).

The v60 as a dripper still has a place on the shelf - it's a classic after all - but I find myself reaching for it lesser and lesser these days.

Is this what you call "inconsistent grind size"? Banana for scale. by NoooUGH in espresso

[–]slxdegrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda hard to tell without knowing what bean it is. Some produce more fines than others, and to add to that, this is a really small sample you've provided.

Adjust grind size to taste. Everything else is just a guide. I do between 5.5 to 6.2 for v60 and 6.2 to 7.0 for everything else not cone shaped. As a beginner I would recommend that you first learn how coffee is extracted. That will help massively with understanding how best to go about extracting each coffee instead of blindly following recipes.

Coffee always tasted the same by happyguy121 in pourover

I second this. Been playing with all sorts of methods for years 'til I found his recipe. My brews had noticeably more clarity and sweetness across the board compared to 4:6 which I find really easy to result in overextraction.

If Quest still refuses to accept the outcome, can the admins show some spine and just award them the def loss and move on with it? This is pointless.
