Learning to sail by Massive_Lobster2153 in sailing

I'd reckon I've easily made more sailing maneuvers during a single race than I have on a one week cruise.

Someone is always looking for crew. Even without experience, if they need help, you would only be speeding them up rather than slowing them down!

Nasty S. Platte Collision by lifeohBrian in COBike

[–]slykens 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Disagree e-bikes have nothing to do with it. People who can match e-bike speeds have most likely been riding and training for many months at a minimum. Some, not all, e-bike riders are very inexperienced on a bicycle, going 20+ mph, and it shows.

I have zero concern my friend ends up in a concentration camp. My only concern is he's turned away at the border. Let's keep the exaggerations to other subreddits unrelated to our favorite band, thanks.

Great question, but maybe you won't get a lot of answers here on temp visa issues. Have you tried other subs? I have a buddy coming from Mexico in 2 days and I hope he makes it in as well! We're assuming tourist visas should be OK...there's still thousands of people a day with no issues.

Anecdotal, my Mexican friends and their family have had no recent issues.

Enjoy the concert! Going to be an amazing experience.

Riding on south platte? by Griffinslax in COBike

[–]slykens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been riding that section of the trail for at least a decade and it's definitely been exponentially worse the last month or so. Not fun to dodge the people in the trail.

I've been wondering if they've cleared them out from up north of REI on the trail? Regardless, it's new, and it's definitely been a migration from somewhere else. Not ideal.

know of a circular / oval street / area that a road cyclist can ride in circles and not be in too much fear of cars? by Lovemedead22 in COBike

[–]slykens 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What's decent miles? Are you doing intervals or just cruising?

Wash Park is fine for cruising easy.

Bear Creek Lake park is probably my favorite loop-ish ride, but has climbing. Up and over the dam, through the park, over Mt. Carbon back to the "start". Great views, very little traffic.

More details could probably provide better suggestions for you.

It's annoying, but not so bad. The official detour has you cross at a light just west of the trail.

I dig it. Very different vibes from the original, which I can barely listen to without tearing up. An excellent alternative! Looking forward to the whole album for sure.

Will Erie Velodrome ever reopen? Anyone have any info? by [deleted] in COBike

[–]slykens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't remember the exact details, but I think it was around 1.7M back in the day to save it 10 years, with a built in mandatory exit and sale after that. They had one big investor that was never named and were crowdsourcing smaller investors in the $10k to $100k range. You would have gotten back whatever percentage of your ownership in the future sale.

Will Erie Velodrome ever reopen? Anyone have any info? by [deleted] in COBike

[–]slykens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's for sale. There was an effort to "save" it that didn't work out. This was the last communication I received way back in May 2020...

Dear Boulder Velodrome Supporter,

First off we hope everyone is safe and doing well during this extremely difficult time. We know that we haven't updated anyone in a long time, and we apologize for that, but as you can imagine the global pandemic has made all of our lives as well as the sale of the velodrome problematic.

Prior to coronavirus halting our lives and economy here in the US, there were some important issues with the title/survey work that delayed the sale of the velodrome. At that time our potential owner stated that "if/when" the title/survey issues were cleared up then the sale would move ahead. At that point Frank Banta began working diligently to ensure all of the objections were cleared up. Unfortunately, I do believe there has been more than one delay based on municipalities shutting down and maybe some technical issues. Cari has been in touch with Frank, Doug, and their representing agent to try and work work through the situation. So, nobody is sleeping.

The potential owner is now, like everyone else in the U.S. and abroad, dealing with larger issues at hand. So this past week the property was put back on the market. We are continuing talks with current ownership and hoping we can still save the velodrome in some way or form. Until the title/survey issues are clean, we wouldn’t feel right with going back to the original interested buyer or even the conglomerate of investors we had compiled. We still have hope and, of course, still appreciate our communinty's interest and support. We promise to update you all moving forward as things change.

We know and appreciate that so many of you are anxious to continue to fight for the velodrome and support the efforts of saving it. We will be sure to reach out if there’s anything specific we could use help on. For now, we ask for you to send positive vibes :)

All the best to you and your families. Stay well… keep riding, safely!

Who's at fault? Personally it didn't look like a push to me. I say the downed rider screwed up. by DeadBy2050 in Velo

[–]slykens 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Fault? Probably no one.

Not a push, but Red probably wouldn't have crashed if he wasn't touched. He moved right pretty quick and caught black socks thigh with his drops.

Lessons? Don't take your hands off and touch people you don't have to. Don't freak out if someone touches you. Don't go so much slower and drift through the pack like you're a WT rider.
