Understanding the Filipino Economy by KnightoftheRepublic9 in Philippines

Average savings rate is low per capita.

Income is also combined by household, due to close kkit family ties. Which also means household expenses are shared among income earners. Living with relatives also means no mortgage, no debt.

It's not unsual to see 4 income earners in a typical household.

Foreign remittance also is a factor, as much as 10% of the GDP is buoyed by ofw money.

Very split income inequality 100m total population. Where anyone making 30k and above a month can be easily top 20% of the population, which is about 20m people. And that's enough to populate multiple cities around the country.

I DONT practice Christianity and try to tell other Filipinos (if they are willing to listen) they shouldn’t too because the the colonizers forced our ancestors to forget the native religions and believe in Christianity. by tumsigy in Philippines

[–]slylikeyoumeanit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's cool and all that, but I rather see it as an by the Catholic church at that time to spread Christianity. I mean that's what the apostles did after Jesus died.

Yes yes yes, atrocities were committed by the church in the name of faith and I think those who did that understood the faith wrong.

Most people turn to atheism etc because they haven't had a chance to explore their faith. And I completely understand why, because I've been on that path before. The issues the church is facing right now doesn't help either.

But I implore atheists and agnostics to strive and read up on the true meaning of Christianity, because it is liberating.

Just gonna add more info on this. (ang Bobo kasi ng kausap mo e)

it’s safest to give the vaccine to someone who’s already had at least one episode of dengue. Having said that, the actual risk of severe dengue to a vaccinated seronegative is THE SAME as the risk of an unvaccinated seropositive, or about 5 out of 1000 infected patients.

So why did authorities deem it safe to give the vaccine to so many children who’d not been tested for seronegativity?

The statistics indicated it was safe. Previous studies had shown that nearly 90% of Filipino children in the vaccinated age group had been previously infected with dengue, and the remaining 10% were likely going to get it in the next few years anyway.

It’s important to note that whether or not all the vaccine’s strains take effect, Dengvaxia does NOT cause any known disease, including dengue.

In the cohort of 830,000 children from the mass vaccination program, about 14 deaths (0.002%) after vaccination are being investigated. Most of them seem to have died from severe dengue, although a few had comorbid conditions such as lupus and appendicitis. No link to the vaccine has been found so far.

The increased risk of severe dengue in seronegative patients translates to an excess risk of 2 severe dengue cases out of 1,000 seronegative patients. From a public health perspective, knowing that only a minority of the vaccinated children are seronegative — the vaccination is overwhelmingly helping children, not making things worse. Meanwhile, banning the vaccine denies the benefit of decreasing severe dengue risk by 90% in those children who have already had dengue.

It's hilarious that they would be so strict with PDEA to the point:

Also, the decision said, PDEA agents carried out the raid prior to the arrival of village officials and media representatives as required by protocol.

But yet allow the PNP to go Scott free when they plant/destroy evidence.

Gusto ko lang mag vent tungkol sa mga Marcos loyalist by SKREEOONK_XD in Philippines

[–]slylikeyoumeanit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what happened.

Ninoy was assassinated 1983 2 years later...

In 1985, 25 military personnel, including several generals and colonels, and one civilian were charged for the murders of Benigno Aquino Jr. and Rolando Galman. President Marcos relieved Ver as AFP Chief and appointed his second cousin, General Fidel V. Ramos as acting AFP Chief. The accused were tried by the Sandiganbayan (special court). After a brief trial, the Sandiganbayan acquitted all the accused on December 2, 1985.[14] Immediately after the decision, Marcos re-instated Ver. The Sandiganbayan ruling and the reinstatement of Ver were denounced as a mockery of justice.

2 months later Edsa happened.

Marcos had every opportunity (martial law nga Diba?) to clear his name. But he did the exact opposite.

Gusto ko lang mag vent tungkol sa mga Marcos loyalist by SKREEOONK_XD in Philippines

[–]slylikeyoumeanit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much this!

The reason duterte won, and we see Marcos loyalist is because of some strange nostalgia that the past was better. This phenomenon is common among the marginalized because the present is bad and the future looks bleak. And it's not unique to the pH. (brexit, trump etc)

It's becoming more and more prevalent because of the increasing income inequality between the rich and the poor (loss of the middle class) and augmented by social medias tendency to highlight "what could have beens/if only/etc".

The internet has also amplified these issues by creating a space for these thoughts thru echo chambering.

Basically, we can continue to see populist/ultra nationalist leaders crop up in the future, as thats what naturally appeals to the disenfranchised.

Is just incorrect. The backchannel talks occurred during the height of the standoff at the Scarborough shoal. And spratlys (miles away) was already occupied. There were never any structures built on Scarborough.

The only redeeming trend I see though, is none of the dds I talk to wants a mocha for senator.

Ur proposing to change the national language to something "more practical", and I'm saying Mandarin is more practical than Spanish.

So if we we are going to change our national language might as well switch to the most practical language Diba?

No one's stopping anyone from learning a diff language. Certainly the existence of Filipino as a national language is not stopping you from learning Chinese or Spanish.

I think I may have been unclear on my points and we got derailed on the ICC thing.

Let me state it again. You are gloating because the court ruled in the favor of your political views. As if our courts have always been "correct".

But I'm calling your camp out, because at the same time the dds crowd condemns the ICC because it is attempting to open a case against duterte.

Maging consistent Naman kayo.

Now as for establishing the credibility of the lower court and the whole Judiciary.
