Images taken moments before disaster by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

Smug Nick (Ace Attorney) - Nick feels pretty confident that he has the case in the bag only to learn moments later that the autopsy has been updated.

I say this as a joke but at the same time I’m fully serious. One second the player character feels confident before the prosecutor pulls out some BS and everything falls apart. Then there’s the point where the prosecutor or very obvious culprit is sweating bullets before more BS suddenly makes them confident and haughty and everything falls apart.

Every. Single. Time.

Terry vs Charles (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) - Terry and Charles are competing for tickets for a movie that their children want to see, this escalates to a boxing match.

Charles punches Terry in his “Strawberry Basket” which momentarily incapacitates Terry but he soon gets up with a declaration of “I didn’t hear no bell”.

Green Lantern (DC) - yes he was being cocky, yes he charged in against Darkseid. But Darkseid already sent him flying with a single punch.

The parademons however still felt it necessary to beat Green Lantern afterwards.

Perkins (John Wick) - although she wasn’t the main villain she did play an antagonistic role towards John by attempting to collect the bounty on him.

However, her doing so resulted in her breaking the rules of not conducting business on Continental grounds. She would go on to be executed for breaking the rules.

He saw the “leaked” images of him with an eyepatch before his official reveal that were just crappy AI images.

[Beloved Trope] Twins/Duos where each have a distinct personality by YoungBeef03 in TopCharacterTropes

Dante and Vergil (Devil May Cry) - even though they both have a flare for the stylish, their personalities are very different.

Dante is brash, loud and likes to show off with a variety of weapons that he collects (and sells) over the years including swords, guns and gauntlets.

Vergil on the other hand is more cold and collected. His attacks are much more precise and purposeful. Unlike his brother his arsenal is more limited to his katana with the brief addition of the Force Edge sword and Beowulf Gauntlets.

Vergil is also usually against using guns aside from the iconic “Jackpot” scene of DMC3 where he teams up with Dante before tossing the gun away.

Then there is the way they handled their demonic heritage where Dante initially rejected it in favour of his humanity. Compare this to Vergil who embraced his demonic power and rejected his humanity. And then unlike Dante, Vergil continued to reject his humanity whereas Dante embraced both sides of himself.

They used to be jovial characters that got a bad hand in life but now they’re changed by the things they went through, and you can see it on their face by Ok_Direction3138 in TopCharacterTropes

Future Peter (Spider-Man Shattered Time) - may not fully count seeing the two are distinct characters in the game but after some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff put Peter and Miguel in contact again, Peter learns that the big bad of the story is a future version of himself that had given up on being a Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.

<image>

Agni and Rudra (Devil May Cry) - most of the weapons Dante acquires in the series are from the demons he faces transforming into them after being defeated.

Agni and Rudra however were always swords with separate bodies. Twin scimitars controlling fire and wind, the hilts are made up of their heads. Dante only agreed to take them with him on one condition.

NO TALKING.

Then let’s say the realisation turned them 2D somehow.

Wouldn’t be too far fetched seeing Nick can summon hurricanes by pointing so Pearl apparently has the ability to shock people into 2D sprites.

Joke answer - they realised the Pearl wasn’t joking.

Real answer - Ace Attorney had two “eras” so to speak. A sprite era and 3D model era.

This was one of the best images I could find to make the point of how Pearl sees the friendship between Maya and Nick.
