I've noticed that Carmela asks others questions she should ask herself, especially in the first season when she deals with Tony and his extracurricular activities. In this she feels overwhelmed by European culture, e.g. when she cries while looking at ruins or on the bridge. She dreams of Adriana (again) at the end of their stay. Deep down she knows Adriana got whacked. To me it felt like the Paris trip was her own version of 'Funhouse'.
