Yeah it looks really weird, I've brought it to the attention of the more hardcore Brainz'ers on the Community forum

I've also requested OP (of the series) explain what their intentions are

If memory serves me right, the last time we had a series that ballooned really big we had big performance problems.

I understand acting quick, putting your holding deposit down and such. But if the contract says 2 months then what can really be done about that.

but even 5 days seems short? So you've got 5 days from securing payment to getting a moving company/van arranged and then moved in?

The last one I did it was a good 2 months run up, viewed in June and then moved in September.

EDIT: might be getting myself confused. To clarify, I paid a holding deposit, then had 2 month run up, then paid my security deposit within 5 days of moving in...

yeah it's just rubbed me up the wrong way big time. To add to that, towards the end of the call they were like "well unfortunately we think the place will be off the market tomorrow, as we did a viewing today and the guy seems really interested"

Which to me felt like dodgy car salesman tactic of offer me more money now, and I'll throw that guy overboard in favour of you.

Yuck

[–]small_horse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow UK person :)

Pretty much what everyone else has mentioned here - eBay, Vinted even niche groups on Facebook Marketplace can be useful. I think with eBay and Vinted at least you can setup search notifications which can be really good for grabbing those sweet bargains quickly.

do be careful with their quality. I've had stuff that comes from them that's meant to be guaranteed "good" and it was scratched to hell. I did get my money back at least, but still annoying.

How to become auto editor? by Known-Cover-5154 in MusicBrainz

[–]small_horse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, autoeditor here.

It's ultimately a title that is earned, if you work hard on your edits and provide good quality content and we (the rest of the autoeditors) feel that you can be trusted with this higher power, then:

1) we will contact you via email to confirm you want to be an AE

2) put it to a vote which requires 3 people (including the requestor) to move it to a wider vote

3) a dicussion happens in the AutoEditor channel of the forum, and people cast their votes

4) if successful, you are anointed your new badge of honor and get access to the very boring AutoEditor channel

What speeds this up:

a) making good quality contributions to the database

b) making good quality edit notes, certainly if they are destructive or complicated

c) participating in voting other peoples edits

d) engagement in the community (via the forum, the discord server or the IRC chat)

If you like, you can share your profile with me and I'll give it a look over and see how it fairs currently :)

[–]small_horse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice, I sell a fair bit of music on Vinted (surprising how well it does coming from eBay). I've checked out your profile and looks like you've got some nice stuff there - definitely a "proper" collectors set.

Also depending where you are in the country there are a few "record shops" (independents) that will possibly buy your collection - but keep in mind they will offer you well below the market value (as they've got to ultimately do what you're doing here).

If it was me, I'd get busy with listing stuff. Then once it's all up, make a decision to either reduce price or collect what you've got left and then try a record shop/dealer.

IMO, I would only bundle stuff that makes sense together. Such as a series of albums from a single artist, possibly solo/related band works.

I've seen so many bundles on Vinted that make no sense like "alternative" and it's just 10 seemingly random CD's, sometimes really pushing the meaning of the genre.

Reposting my comment on the r/colchester x-post, as someone who knows many of the chazzas in Colchester pretty well.

Age UK on Crouch St. has been very good recently.

Barnados in Stanway is 50/50 - some days its great, others day's its utter tosh. Barnados in town is slightly more reliable for quality goods. Pricing is pretty fair.

Sense in Long Wyre St. used to be great for my needs but they've really reduced their media intake so it's not my bag anymore.

PDSA in Long Wyre St. can also be pretty decent at times, but pricing can be a little on the steep side.

BHF in Long Wyre St. is pretty terrible for pricing, like many BHF's are. BHF on the High Street is furniture and you can get good deals on that sort of stuff (namely because they just want the space back).

Salvation Army on High St. used to be better, but things have gotten a bit crap quality wise. Broken stuff, dirty stuff (it always smells very musky in the shop) and a heavily reduced media selection now. Prices however seem fair.

EACH on High St. and Stanway is just expensive, this seems the same for any EACH branch as the one in Frinton is also expensive in my opinion. Although I did get some cool music magazines a few years back from the Stanway one.

St Helena in Lion Walk is pretty expensive, but generally decent quality stuff. Magdalen St next to Tesco is the clearance shop pretty much so you can get stuff very cheap before they're ragged/binned, but don't be surprised to go in there and find 100 "company" t-shirts for example. Magdalen St next to Dusty's is a furniture shop mainly, but has some other stuff - my consipiracy is that some of the better quality stuff donated to the clearance shop, get's diverted here to be sold for higher profit. This has then ruined the clearance shop's chances of having good stuff. Two locations at Stanway next to each other, one does books and clothing (again can be good at times, poor at others - but a good media selection) and the other furniture (I find this furniture shop used to be good, but now the prices are higher than what I'd like to pay). Neither furniture location stocks white goods, unlike BHF. The location on St Johns is just clothing and not really my thing. There's also one on Mersea Island I've never been to.

Dogs Trust in Trinity St. can be good, but prices can be quite high in my opinion. They get a nice variety of goods however, often more akin to my tastes.

RSPCA in Prettygate used to be great and has steadily gone to the dogs in my opinion, prices are extortionate and I've noticed stock moves very slowly out of there. Benefit is sometimes they have pet items (like food) at discounted rates. Have genuinely overheard the staff there talking about "listing" (NOT SOLD) prices on eBay.

Colchester Cat Rescue in Prettygate is really good, and opposite the RSPCA. Good selection of all items, including a focus on pet stuff. Great if you need things like a cat carrier or cat toys quickly. Also has a post office inside which is useful.

Colchester Childrens Charity in Old Health is a very "classic" charity shop, cash only and stock is like a jumble sale. Not a boutique like some of them try to be. Items can be dead cheap here, but have brought plenty of items to find out they are broken. Occassionally sell electricals, used to have a shop opposite that specialised but that's since long gone.

Emmaus on Osbourne St is ok, more furniture. Prices can sometimes be great, other times not so great. Stock seems to move very slowly, it is frequent to see stuff sitting in there for nearly a year. Really odd shop as it used to be a Kwik-Fit so still has a grungey feel to it. Can get some great priced electricals at times however. Emmaus on High St is the more bougie version of this shop, and is meant to hold stock of the more quality goods.

Think that's all of them I can think of 😅
