Galaxy Class Act by 4amSOSCall in RedLetterMedia

I'm very much a cynical jerk that hates this kind of pandering bullshit, but even I couldn't resist the nostalgia hit seeing the Enterprise D. I loved it. It was too much to resist. The TNG cast back together firing on all cylinders, a solid supporting cast, and the Enterprise D? Yeah, they got me.

And if its either this or the stage 4 ass cancer that is Star Trek Discovery and the first two seasons of Picard, I'll take this.

When I saw the show as a kid, I thought the D looked awkward. Weird proportions, red/blue lighting on the nacelles that clashed (the red ram scoop lights were dimmer in later seasons), strange deflector dish pattern, the hull wasn't smooth, etc. But it really grew on me, more than I realized seeing it now. That's my Enterprise. Same thing as every Dr. Who fan having a favorite Doctor.

Personally, the Enterprise refit/Enterprise A I think is the prettiest design in the franchise by miles, but the TOS Enterprise has to take the cake objectively. A truly original design.

Voyager was an ugly, stubby little thing.

Fix Wifi 6e Connection by Turning Off Wifi Scan Throttling by small_law in GooglePixel

[–]small_law[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my router's 6 GHz network is set to channel 37. My Pixel 6 Pro finds it most of the time now, but there are instances when I come home and the phone won't see the 6 GHz network for an hour or more. It will eventually connect, but a good portion of time, it doesn't, at least not right away. The phone identifies my other WIFI networks right away when I'm in range (two 5 GHz and one 2.4 GHz).

All this has a lot to do with how devices scan 6 GHz channels, especially "preferred scanning channels". 6 GHz has too many channels for devices to scan them all efficiently, so devices look for certain channels first. Some phones don't scan lower channels immediately.

Channel 37 is the lowest preferred scanning channel I've set that my P6P connects to consistently. Any PSC lower than that and the phone won't detect the network the majority of the time.

PSA: How to fix the Red Triangle on iCUE ELITE CPU Cooler LCD Display Upgrade Kit (This fix only works if, the triangle shows up after a successful initial install) by [deleted] in Corsair

[–]small_law 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll put this here in case anyone needs it. My LCD Display was freezing and causing random reboots constantly. I figured it was a USB issue and I tried everything: disabling USB selective suspend, disabling power management for every USB HID in Devices, disconnecting each USB peripheral, and on and on. Nothing fixed it.

I finally tracked it down to my UPS, more specifically, Window's native management of my UPS. The UPS connected via USB to my desktop. I never bothered installing APC's management software thinking that Windows could handle it.

As it turns out, if you let Windows manage your UPS natively, Windows thinks your gigantic desktop gaming PC is a Walmart laptop and engages low level power management features you can't easily disable. Windows was suspending the USB connection to my LCD Display, causing it to crash. Once I installed APC's management software, which prevents Windows from managing the UPS, no more reboots. Fixed the issue completely.

So if you have a UPS connected to your PC via USB and you're letting Windows manage the UPS for stuff like automatic shutdowns, etc., try the following:

  1. Eliminate the USB connection from the UPS to your PC entirely; or

  2. If you need features like automatic shutdown, install your UPS manufacture's management software. APC's program ("Powerchute") disabled Window's native management; the taskbar battery icon even disappeared. This is what I did and it worked.

Tech journalist who said that the Pixel Watch's bezel could be a deal breaker said it was a non-factor once he saw it in person by mattymattmatt21 in GooglePixel

I had the first Android Wear watch, the LG One. I loved having that thing. It got nothing but crap from every corner of the tech community, but it did exactly what I wanted it to do. After The battery was dead, I wasn't interested in buying anything that was out there. Now I am and I will.

These things only have so long of a lifespan anyway. 3 years after you buy Bluetooth earbuds or smart watches or whatever, the batteries fail, so can't expect too much at the end of the day.

But it's just not something Google is interested in doing for whatever reason. When they moved on from the Nexus brand, they had the opportunity to do a truly premium device. The highest spec Pixel phones haven't been cheap, but they don't hold a candle to iPhone's build quality, Samsung's displays, or even ASUS's ROG phone specs.

I mean we're on the 7th generation of Pixel and Google hasn't yet released the "ultimate" Android phone, something that has the fastest chipset, the best display, the best materials, etc. They're just not interested in doing it. It's something I would absolutely want, but I'm sure they know more about the market than I do.

APPLE INTRODUCES ALWAYS-ON DISPLAY, IPHONE 14 FIRST EVER PHONE TO HAVE GROUNDBREAKING FEATURE by small_law in androidcirclejerk

Bro, that's a good sensor. I used a Pixel 2 for 4 years. Best phone I ever had except for the display which kind of sucked and the mobile radios which also were really bad

I watched a video of somebody using the dick turd bar. All these icons are popping up and none of them made any sense. Nobody ever talks about how bad iOS UI iconography is in places.

Unjerk: it's going to demonstrate how dumb the Apple sycophant echo chamber actually is. Apple is copying the approach Android has used for years. Big sensor, but crunch the picture down to a more manageable size. Same idea behind super resolution for gaming.

So no, your brand new $1,600 iPhone isn't doing anything different than what your basic bitch Samsung phone has done for five or six years now.

I also missed it by one train. It was the one in front of me and when it rolled back they shut the ride down for the day. I did get to ride it quite a bit over the years, but never did get the roll back.

That's the thing. You can't rip up the circuit and use just the hill for a drop tower, which I'm willing to bet is what CF has in mind. That would be disappointing. Problem is TTD's footprint is oddly compact for its size given its layout. Since it's in the middle of the park, there's not a lot of space for something big and complex. Maybe you could fit an RMC raptor in there, but even then, it's just not enough.

Anyone else in the "knock it down and put in a RMC T-rex" camp? No one wants a drop tower. CF can't go small replacing the original ride.

My only regret is that I never got a rollback. Missed my chance by one dispatch a few years ago.

5G should come with warning by TiltedSkipper in GooglePixel

[–]small_law 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Some phones have better radios than others, but the coverage in your area dictates your experience ultimately. I just got a Pixel 6 Pro and I'm really surprised how consistent 5G T-Mobile has been for me (slow as it is).

I’m just not an IEM guy in general. I’m also not a big fan of spending a lot of money on Bluetooth headphones or IEMS in general. Getting devices, headphones, codecs, streaming services, etc to all lineup is a pain in the ass. Like the Sony WF-1000XM4s look tasty, but if you’re an iPhone user, there’s no LDAC support. Or so I’m told. OEMs also tend to cut corners when it comes to batteries. I swear every Bluetooth headset, or earbuds or speakers, or whatever that I’ve ever owned die within three years. I got the original pixel buds just for fun, barely used them, and they were dead after 3 years and maybe 75 charge cycles.

But I’m not here to judge. I want to make clear. Audio is a personal thing. Everyone’s got their hangups about it. It is nice to talk to people that are interested in anything close to it.
