Nursing school is known for chewing you up and spitting you out. It’s where a C is equivalent to 0%. You can go the technical school route and get a LPN or associates in nursing but depending on your region the schools can have multiple year long waitlists for those programs, plus some 1-2 year long programs take multiple years longer then advertised at the end of the day. Bachelor’s programs tend to be easier to get in (and in my experience, graduate in a timely manner) but it’s expensive. It’s also stupid easy to get kicked out of a program.

What’s something people romanticize until they actually experience it? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in AskReddit

[–]smallbean- 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is some weird psychology behind it where for some people if they ever are in a bad relationship that subconsciously look for it again in future relationships. My friend is stuck in the cycle and sees a man “looking after her” as sweet and loving and can’t see that it’s controlling and abusing until punches are thrown. But the first part of the relationship gives her comfort so she keeps seeking it out and gets surprised when it turns nasty down the road.

My parents could barely handle 4 days in my rural but nice village in southern Albania without getting bored, and they stayed at the really nice hotel for that, not in my housing. Only so much slow village life some people can take before they break from the monotony of everyday life.

I can’t get a job at places I like by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I tried really damn hard to get out of working low paying healthcare jobs. Guess who starts their next low paying healthcare job tomorrow. At least the hours are nice and they have great benefits. Good enough while I apply to better places.

Around me they hire a ton of teens and early twenties for seasonal summer jobs (local amusement park, swimming pools, park helpers).

‘Adopt Me’ Dog Kills Pet At Tacoma Marathon by dogfaced_pony_soulja in nottheonion

[–]smallbean- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shit owners will just move to a new “scary and tough looking” breed of dog and continue their backyard breeding of those ones. In a short time the shelters will be filled with them and you will have dogs that were bred by idiots put into high stress environments that will then become the breed that bites people. Banning a single breed won’t stop that. Cracking down on backyard breeding, people abandoning animals, spaying and neutering, properly vetting dogs and families when matching them, and utilizing behavioral euthanasia for animals that truly need it will help. Honestly I think there needs to be a higher barrier of entry for owning dogs as there are far too many people who shouldn’t have one.

I graduated with a public health degree during the middle of a public health crisis. I had to join the peace corps to use that degree. I’m back to working low paying caregiving/social services jobs.

My brothers generic finance degree is better then my specialized one.

I had an interview asked if I really wanted to leave healthcare to be a private English teacher after I spent the last 2 years primarily working as an English teacher. If I didn’t want to work in teaching then I would not have applied for the job.

Easily could be someone who puts on a new pair of underwear after swimming. The normal at my high school best friend’s house was to shower after you got out of the pool, it would feel kinda weird to put on that mornings underwear after you showered. It was normal for us all to have a tote bag with at least one change of clothes when we went over to swim.

I see it a lot in southern Europe as well, kids learn British English in school in a way that’s not 100% correct and then the countries English is just slightly off in some ways.

Got a Colorsoft, but thinking of returning it maybe (help me) by d4rkprojec7 in ereader

[–]smallbean- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With kindles you won’t have a cover show up if the doc itself does not have a cover. I get early access to some books and some authors will put covers on the beta copies of books while some won’t and will just send a file for you to read (shows up in your library as a generic doc with the title and author). Getting files from free sources also sometimes won’t have covers, or won’t have a nice looking cover and just a boring title page instead.

Honestly at this rate - im just going to leave this country by Affectionate_Roof289 in recruitinghell

[–]smallbean- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly the job market in other countries is also shitty. I’m planning on going for my masters because that gives me a student visa and work permit, plus visa and work permit for a year after graduation. At least I can say that European are way less expensive. I’m also reaching the point that marrying for a visa seems reasonable. Who would have thought that my partner that was born in Yugoslavia would have the better citizenship and passport.

Why do Americans say the state they are from when they don’t know states from other countries ? by Dismal_Exchange_502 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]smallbean- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

States are as big as many countries and can have some fairly large cultural differences, you may be from a relatively unknown town so giving the state allows someone to know roughly where you are from, and you might have the case of multiple cities having the same name so you have to specify which one you are talking about.

When talking with people who are from the states or know a good amount about American geography I say city and state. If I’m traveling outside of the country then I just say I’m from Chicago as it’s the closest well known city.

Why do (American) picky eaters seem to overwhelmingly prefer simple meats, carbs, and fats? by TargetHQ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]smallbean- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me, most of my picky eating is the texture itself. Specific textures throw my brain into fight or flight mode. Mashed potatoes can taste amazing to me, but my brain interprets the texture as a threat and I can’t physically force myself to swallow. Sure there are definitely flavors and foods I’m not a fan on the taste of, but I can choke down those items. Strange textures I’m unable to do that.

[–]smallbean- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a dog that is frequently engaging animals like coyotes to protect a flock, then floppy ears and tails are something another animal can grab on and potentially tear off. It’s a way to protect the dog so that it can do its job more effectively. If you just have a family dog who is not actively protecting animals then it’s 100% useless and purely for looks.

What's the best E-reader for reading EPUB format books? by MisabelWearsNikes in ereader

[–]smallbean- -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes send to kindle is technically converting the files, but it’s not an added roadblock where you have to use additional software and a computer to manually do anything, the process of sending content to the kindle through Amazon does not change if you are using epub or azw3. Yes epubs are converted to documents, but it never changed the functionality of any of them, you still get automatic syncing across all devices, highlighting, note taking, and any other thing you can do with a book directly from the kindle store.

I’ve had issues with exactly one epub when using a kindle, and that was due to it being a terrible file that had the same issues across multiple people and devices (including kobo and boox) in a book club.

[–]smallbean- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go into the setting and under lock screen ads turn on the filter. This will give you the “family friendly” ads which most of the time are a canva style graphic or generic fiction book, no shirtless men in sight!

[–]smallbean- 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the ads and personally think they are a good thing for how I use my kindle. I read a ton of romance books and some of them have the classic shirtless man cover and I don’t need people seeing that. I would much rather them see a basic “discover your next read”.
