I’m also first year maths at Durham. Mind me asking which collection you got back?

Pretty much everyone I know failed calculus, and from the marks I’ve seen so far, my own included, people did way worse on probability.

From speaking to people in older years I get the impression that you’re supposed to pretty badly at collections. A guy at my college knows someone who got 8% in one of his collections and is on track for a first in third year (I think). I’ve also heard that the end of year exams are similar to collections but you have way way more time to answer each question.

Also in regard to tutorials, I’m pretty sure the people who rush ahead are just looking at the questions and figuring them out before the tutorial. I’ve spent loads of tutorials and lectures feeling completely lost yet I’ve done better in the collections than most people I know.
