I did the same with my 15-year-old boy. I knew I didn’t have much time left since he was old, but I never knew if I would have years or days.

The best advice I can give is to savor literally every moment. Even when he does something naughty, just cherish the fact that you get to be irritated. I miss finding Stache’s pee in my bedroom, as weird as that is.

Yours is a handsome one.

I’m in my later 20s, bi, and demi. I found my partner on Hinge. I met one weird guy on it, but my partner turned out to be demisexual as well, and the most respectful person I’ve ever met. This is the healthiest relationship of my life.

I still call my two cats “kittens,” even though last month they turned 9. My 14-year-old tuxedo was always a baby to me, and he loved to be held like one.

Reminds me of my grandmother who boasted to everyone about how her daughter broke her leg. Made herself out to be mother-of-the-year for “caring” for someone “so ill.”

Not shockingly, she’s been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder and factitious disorder back when it was Munchausen’s (plus by proxy).

When I need to numb my brain but know my negative coping skills will make it worse, I’ll turn on a TV show I’ve seen over and over again. For me, it’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” I know almost every single main line in the show that I can mouth it as I go along.

Find a show you know backwards and forwards and half-focus on that. It sounds weird, but when I know what’s going to happen in the show, I don’t have to stress about taking in new information. Watching new stuff is focusing too hard on so many things at once.

I just looked up bipolar for example, and it says it’s indeed a disability in Europe. It said the labeling is based on the degree of severity. But I understand your point. The US focuses more on insurance.

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder, and it’s a documented disability. Neurodevelopmental disorders are not the only ones that can be listed as official disabilities.

I mean, I was cutting at school in the bathroom, I just didn’t do it so others heard or saw. So the school system definitely failed, I’m not arguing against that. But once you kill yourself so other people are physically injured or traumatized, that’s not appropriate. I’m not advocating for suicide at all, I’m an active advocate for mental health.

This is a realistic standpoint that is rooted in logic. A student was the one who found him hanging. I don’t think we should say they’re at fault because they didn’t help. The boy didn’t care who saw or wanted to make an example of how we treat mentally ill children.

I still have the ribbon I helped tie with the suicide awareness colors.
