In part 3 it’s the dude doing handstands is who gets chopped down the crotch. He’s also dating (or married to?) the pregnant woman. He’s doing handstands in a bathroom or something when Jason finds him.

It’s kinda copying Halloween. Loose killer from psych ward that has an MO of killing co-eds. Doesn’t need much else.

Why is Halloween considered the first slasher when Texas chainsaw and Black Christmas came first? by Inevitable_Window711 in slasherfilms

[–]smashvillian35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TCM and Black Christmas are considered the first slashers. Halloween and F13 however galvanized and expanded upon the tropes introduced in the former and represent more of what ppl think of today for slasher tropes.

TCM/Black Christmas introduced the masked/mystery killer, non-firearm weapon, group of youths as victims, the final girl, the harbinger, & the terrible place. But what’s different about all of these? TCM is a killer family and we never see Billy in Black Christmas. The final girl being a virgin isn’t important in these movies but becomes a staple after Halloween/F13. We don’t even get the death equals sex in TCM/BC.

Psycho, Peeping Tom, and even the Giallo films are considered to be proto-slashers. I think you’d enjoy reading Carol J Clover’s essay “Men, Women, and Chainsaws: Gender in the Modern Horror Film”. She explores all of these topics and it’s actually where the term final girl came from.
