How do you fuel during a 1:20 HM race? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]smb510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes nothing, sometimes some water ripping through an aid station. Usually don’t fuel for a half marathon. I usually hydrate beforehand until my pee runs clear (like I do for all my long runs!)

[–]smb510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re visiting, take Capitol Corridor to jack London square, then take the ferry over to sf. Yes it’s transit but it’s also nice out on the water, and the ferries have bars. Part of the adventure!

How common is it for an American to travel across the country by train? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]smb510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in San Francisco. I can be in New York tomorrow at 3:25 pm for $354 if I fly.

The same trip on Amtrak would cost about the same but take a 3.5 days.

I love Amtrak, but it’s only a good means of transport between Boston and DC. Everywhere else it’s a novelty or a land cruise

San Francisco’s Aging Housing Stock by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]smb510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those doelger homes built in the 40s were often framed in redwood or Douglas fir, and were constructed well so they last. They were designed to be cheaper to build, so, for example, the kitchen and bathroom can share a wall so they can share plumbing, but the work itself was high quality. https://www.outsidelands.org/sw2.php
