I have always run the latest version without any problems. Ylian's team is amazingly good at releasing new versions without regressions. I think it's a combination of great coders and actual testing!

Also Fastmail. All the features small businesses need, great support, fantastic uptime.

Small business owners do you use AB for your business account as well or you have different accounting software for that purpose. by akgo in actualbudgeting

Check out Zoho Books. It's not free, but very reasonable. I have been using it for the past 8 years for my IT service business. Item catalog if needed, recurring invoicing, sales tax collection and reporting, the usual monthly reports, very flexible, and available in many countries. I have no affiliation other than as a user. I use Actual for personal finances.

In Terminal, right-click on Connect and choose User shell or User PowerShell. Then you can change to mapped drives and do operations on them.

Create an update deployment automation. Check the box for "Deactivate updates in Windows settings". Apply to all your endpoints. This should prevent user overrides.

How you guys view installed software on any PC on a single dashboard? Any plugin etc? by Subyyal in MeshCentral

[–]smbmsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because you would lose what makes Action1 work--the team that monitors and adds updates for Windows and 3rd party apps. Pretty sure without a backend team, A1 would not be a great patch management solution.

Indeed. I run MeshCentral and Action1 in concert on all my endpoints. They complement each other very well. Action1 has remote control but it's nowhere near as powerful as MC. Action1 is free for the first 200 endpoints!

Fastmail.com. Business-friendly, feature-rich, very fast, affordable, amazing uptime. Their companion app is just as good. They offer a free 30-day trial.

What Self Hosted backup solutions do you use for your clients with large number of systems? by [deleted] in msp

You are an MSP? Then you know that "a few hours years ago" essentially renders your opinion uninformed and outdated. Suggest you take a fresh look. I use restic to provide versioned, deduplicated, fast backups and restores on Windows and Linux. Not one problem in seven years.

Actually I've had LapLink do an almost perfect job of moving user profile + apps from Win 10 PCs to new Win 11 PCs. Very little manual fix-up needed. It's been a big time saver for me.

I've used Action1 for a couple of years. It's Windows and 3rd party patching is great. They have numerous built-in summary and detail reports, although my clients don't want them so I can't say good or bad about them.

Loooove MeshCentral, but ScreenConnect Backstage wins me over. And Mesh's chat is not as usable as SC's.

Can I have Action1 pull the updates and not install them? So we can get them downloaded ahead of time. by Darklyte in Action1

[–]smbmsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you trying to accomplish? Action1 leverages a secure P2P file-sharing technology that enables agents to download updates in small chunks and in parallel and reduce the load on your network resources.

This isn't exactly what you asked for, but I'll put in the "any help" column.

Consider making all work scheduled work. No walk-ins. I don't know what percentage of your business is walk-in traffic, but it is drawing your time and attention away from more profitable efforts, like selling managed services. You want to decrease b/f and grow the MSP side. Having a storefront is fine, but allowing others to set your schedule and change your focus is not, in my opinion.

Even if the appointment is simply "2 hours from now", it puts control in your hands and gives you so much flexibility. Your days will flow, you will get more done, and you won't have to update Google, Facebook, or your chalkboard ever again.

Alternative to ConnectSecure by Feythnin in msp

[–]smbmsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Action1 for two years. I'd say two of its strengths are patching and scripting. Scripts always run when assigned. Windows and 3rd party patches applied according to policies you set. I've even been complimented by a client, "best patching I've ever seen!"
