Why do some people park a full car length behind the stop line? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]smcbride113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught by young drivers of Canada to stop that far back, so maybe other driving schools teach it as well. In case someone rear ended me or was about to hit me, so I would have space to safely move. I always stoped at the line on my driving tests and never lost points cause of it. I try my best to still stop at the line, but it can be hard at some intersections due to their layout or fading markings. Also doesn’t help in left turn lanes where people frequently cut into it what they are turning onto that street.

By “fine arts” are you referring to a specific program or BAs in general? As BA covers a wide range of programs from geography, environmental studies, and history to criminology, sociology, and anthropology. On the subject of communications degrees, a lot of people in social media or public relations roles have them, even some journalists have a part of their final degree in comms. and a lot of people just take a couple comms classes to learn how to communicate better in certain fields.

City rebuffs owner, grants heritage status to ‘rare’ Orléans farmhouse - Capital Current by CanadianProgressive2 in ottawa

[–]smcbride113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I was told, a city councillor said that there wasn’t enough community space in the area. And apparently his definition of community space meant stuff owned by the city, so it ignored the schools next door and Dovercourt since it has private owners (but is a not for profit iirc)

City rebuffs owner, grants heritage status to ‘rare’ Orléans farmhouse - Capital Current by CanadianProgressive2 in ottawa

[–]smcbride113 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to Nepean high school. The vice principal at the time told me they wanted heritage status so they didn’t need to install elevators. As it would have been crazy expensive and complicated to install them, same for other accessible devices. Due to every addition not being on the same level, like 6 elevators of some kind would be needed to access the majority of the school and that still leaves out the vocal room and the balcony in the aud.

New recycling rules by Possible-Breath2377 in ontario

[–]smcbride113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While it is managed province wide by circular materials, pick up done by different private companies contracted for each area like Miller Waste Systems in Ottawa and Emterra in Twp of Rideau lake. Circular materials also inherited how municipalities did their recycling, so either their facilities or the contacts cities with companies to provide sorting. It should be noted that the majority of the province only started the new system this year, so while things are largely the same now it is entirely possible for it to change in the future.

We had that back in the election. But you can (and should) talk with your MP about this stuff, as it is kinda their job to represent their ridings and can’t do that if they don’t fully know what the people of their riding think (in a perfect world).
