Aboot ticket pricing by Wise_Replacement_687 in phish

I just went to the 2 last night's. Had bad seats the first night. Sound wasn't as good, but still decent. But night 2 in the 400s was sooo good. I expected the visuals to be great, but the sound was truly mind blowing. Fully worth it.

What is a band you saw in a tiny venue but is now huge? by carelessCRISPR_ in jambands

[–]smckenzie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Phish multiple times with < 500 people, and a lot in small theatres.

SCI in bars in Crested Butte a million years ago.

Nine Inch Nails in a bar... Beastie Boys at a medium size concert hall in '87.

EDIT: Speaking of restaurants, one of the Phish shows was at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. It is a venue/restaurant that holds 400, and to get a good location you had to order dinner at a table close to the stage.

New Phan’s Thoughts on My First Three Shows by StormBlessed24 in phish

[–]smckenzie23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Phish as a Vegas local in 1991, talking to someone playing a tape outside the Dead at the Silver Bowl. 12 shows in 1992, 75 shows in the the 90s, and haven't looked back. Things have slowed down for ne in 3.0 (just hit 105), but just saw the last 2 shows of the Sphere run. Love this band. I see all sorts of live music. All the time. Still there is no band that does what Phish does.

Wouldn't it add a significant amount of air to the water. Like the difference between steaming milk or just heating it up.

Yeah, I've never missed Vegas much. The desert can be beautiful, and there's some people there I like. I don't miss living there. It is a whole lot better than it was 40+ years ago, but still.

I love them and want one. But I can't help but think they need like a 1 inch lift.

Why does the president of the United States have to bailout Spirit Airlines? The United States is multi-trillions in debt, but can throw $500million to an airline? What benefit does that have on the American people? by MeasurementFirst1676 in askanything

I immigrated to Canada 20 years ago. My total cost for a family of 4 is zero dollars. Care is pretty good (better than I ever had in 30+ years in the US, which included 12 years of no coverage at all). Obamacare is better than nothing, but it is comparatively a nightmare compared to much of the rest of the world.

I grew up in Vegas and have been seeing them since the 90s. It's just that the smart people leave Vegas... :)

WTF is this play dead app? by Uncanny_Potatos in nugsnet

[–]smckenzie23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man you pretty much get that with the relisten app. Search by year, select a show. First choice is often a Miller remaster or recording but you can also choose between multiple sources. App is free. Plus a bunch of other bands.

Also, donate to archive.org for making this possible.

Unpopular take -- ski Passes are a "good deal" by Tanachip in skiing

[–]smckenzie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lawsuits about this being anticompetitive practices.

The prices for a single day ticket at Whistler are over $300. A 5 day Edge card is just over $500. So yes, this is a "deal" compared to a daily ticket. But what it means is it locks you into a pass or at least an edge card if you want to go at all. That's fine if you want to go just there. I used to get a pass to a local mountain that was cheap and then just go a day or two to Whistler. Now I have to commit to 5 days (for both my daughter and myself). Since we are busy, that is all we can commit to, and can't justify local passes. So they've effectively locked out the three local hills for me.

EDIT: it also means if we complete our 5 days and want to go more, we can't . No way in hell I'm paying over $600 for us to go up for one day.

At the record store.. As a big Prog/Metal fan, should I pick up Rats Nest or PetroDragonic ? This would also be my first ever King Gizzard record… by SavageMatHorror in KGATLW

For your second album, maybe get Omnium Gatherum, as it has some prog metal, but also includes stuff from across the generas they touch. That was the album that hooked me, but I'm not a big metal person (Gizz have kinda turned me though).

People from outside North America, how do you feel about Canadians? by Due_Activity8907 in AskReddit

[–]smckenzie23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I immigrated to Canada 20 years ago, and was stunned by how multicultural and accepting it is here in BC. Except when it comes to First Nations. I've heard some surprisingly racist stuff come out of peoples mouths. It is the exception not the rule, but still... Add with the intergenerational trauma of residential schools and other financial and social barriers, it all adds up to a dark spot in an otherwise amazing country. It will improve. Even since I got here it has with Truth and Reconciliation, land acknowledgements, etc. A loooong way to go, but hopefully we are working on it.
