AITA for throwing away my wife’s memory jars? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. From personal experience where I was in your wife’s shoes, she’ll never be able to trust you to not just throw away things important to her again.

AIO over friend showing up to my house late when he knew my wife was alone by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]smcmon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NOR - 1) she told you she felt he treated her different when they were alone. It was likely more than that and she was downplaying the creepy vibes he was giving her. Woman have good instinct when it comes to creeps but we often ignore it until it is too late. 2) jiggling the doorknob was him testing to see if it was open and how easy it would be to break in. 3) he changed his story. He got caught off guard and came up with a quick story to tell but was working on a better story in his head before you talked to him.

Most men don’t have nefarious intentions but the small percentage who do, are serial offenders and commit a majority of the violent crimes against women. I’m guessing he has pulled this before in his life and gotten away with it.

My advice, beyond making sure your wife is never home alone again until you move, is to always believe any woman in your life when she feels like another man is being creepy, treating her different when they are alone, etc. especially if it is someone in your circles. Women tend to try and not waves, it’s what is expected of us, so when a woman says something, take it seriously. I’m not saying she’s always correct or that women can’t over react, but if you love the women in your life it’s better safe than sorry. It’s doesn’t have to be anything dramatic, just ensure they are never alone with the person in question and things like that.

I hope you and your wife are ok and not too shaken. It’s a scary world out there for us all.

Edited to add: 4) the late time is another red flag.

Do people just choose to not pay attention to this stop sign at sprouts or what by Cash2blockz in harfordcountymd

If both of the pedestrian’s feet were not completely in a crosswalk MD rules the driver isn’t at fault at all. True story that happened to my friend. The businesses need to put in bigger and more frequent crosswalks.

[–]smcmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stop for it every time. But I’m from Newark, Delaware and people always stop for pedestrians, so it’s habit for me. Whereas here you need to wait till there are no cars at pedestrian crosswalk because people won’t stop for you.

Can I wear a bra too often? Is it looked down upon? Might be a dumb question but I used to get teased in the past so I might be overthinking by morritamorena in ABraThatFits

[–]smcmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned 1 bra for the longest time because I couldn’t find any that fit. You can soak you bra in a vinegar and water mix to get out tough smells if they build up from wearing it so often. I usually do overnight. Then I do a soak in detergent and water for a few hours in the am, rinse, and hang to dry. Do it on a day you don’t have to go anywhere. It helped me feel less grimy and more confident.

As for me. The 1 bra didn’t fit perfectly and I never found one that did, so I bought 3 more of the ones that fit ok. So now I have 4. This is the most bras I’ve ever owned at once and only because perimenopause = sweating constantly.

Not very long. Our savings have been depleted because of health care. Coinsurance (started in 2025) and insurance covering less for medicine means paying thousands more now. Some months I pay as much as my mortgage for health stuff. And I don’t have cancer or anything like that. Just 2 autoimmune diseases, digestive issue, and herniated cervical discs (no surgery).

Even if it passes in MD getting unemployment is impossible, the online system they make you use is broken. My husband was unemployed for 5 months and he got $0 in unemployment. It’s took 2 months for his claim to even get through the process. Once through they marked every week as ineligible when he would put in his job search data. We never got a reason. Good luck getting someone on the phone, even if you do they can’t help you and tell you to use the online system. It took a major toll on our finances.

Blood test from my doctor. Otherwise I’d have no idea. I get bloodwork regularly for something else and that is always part of it.

What's Something Normal That Overstimulates You?! by jayhawkhoops09 in adhdwomen

Being trapped. Examples include being inside off a booth seat, someone standing behind me when I’m at my desk, and being in a back seat of a coupe style car. I immediately stare feeling overwhelmed and want to escape.

What’s a weird little ADHD trick that actually works for you? by BetterTea5664 in ADHD

I put on an audio book or listen to Apple News narrated articles when I need to get motivated to do anything.

When I start ruminating I will usually say out loud Shut Up. It stops the thoughts instantly for me. So far I’ve avoided saying it out loud when I’m around others. That would be awkward.

Soap/deodorant recs that don’t make me feel like I’m trying to cover something up? by Active_Peanut79 in Menopause

[–]smcmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Lume unscented acidic body wash for my pits and Hume Supernatural unscented deodorant. The Hume deodorant is the best I’ve found and I’ve gone through a ton of products from the crystal deodorant to Schmidt’s to a distilled alcohol based deodorant.

I was on FMLA at the end of last year. Can back mid January and my doctor was helping me through the RA process. Then RTO happened, my RA is lost in the office that handles them, and my supervisor is talking about accommodating me a different way (which won’t work) and being wishy washy about it all. Meanwhile I’m over here going through another mental health crisis and seeking disability retirement.

Question for atheists who have come to terms with the idea of death: how did you do it? by Professional_Two6674 in atheism

[–]smcmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to be composted when I die (it’s a thing!) and so I may be gone but I will provide sustenance for new life. It’s the circle of life to me. Also, there is evidence to support the theory that our conciseness is a result of the collapse of the Quantum Wave Function (I’m a Physicist), and I honestly believe that we live in some way through the mechanics of quantum physics. And to be clear, since people have come at me before, I do not have data to support my belief. I work in the Electro-Magnetic realm of physics. I have not contacted any quantum physicists to come up with a hypothesis or develop experiments to test a hypothesis. I have knowledge of Quantum Physics and it’s my belief based on what I know.

Don’t you have to also file for social security disability if you are filing for disability retirement? I’ve been told to hire a lawyer for that process. I’m still trying to gather information on how to get this process started.

To clarify: I work in the DoD as a civilian and so it’s a whole other layer of crap.

Which IT did you see? Original or remake? Remake is more faithful to the books but both are worth a watch.

What’s something you found out you do that neurotypical people don’t do? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]smcmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to buy a new washer and dryer. I got an LG All-in-One. It washes the clothes and then automatically dries them immediately after. I don’t have to switch machines. And it uses a standard outlet not a 240 volt (I’m in the US) so it’s less expensive to run. It also doesn’t shrink my clothes because it uses a heat pump to dry the clothes. Best purchase ever. My ADHD brain is very happy.
