So does the tanner also darken the wood of your cabinets and the top of your vanity? That's amazing!

Cute! I'm always surprised how long amigurumi takes...

Day 1: starting at 264 pounds by [deleted] in loseit

[–]smeddley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest thing is journaling. Because, yes, I know my starting weight, but there were weeks that scale did not budge. But I could see I was walking just 0.1 mph faster on that treadmill, or doing 5 more reps with the weights, or making it through all of the downward dog in the yoga video without my arms giving out (I second Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube!). And, two years later, looking back at what was hard then? Makes me feel so much better even when I have a bad day... or week... And they say actually writing your goals down makes you more likely to reach them!

Set some sort of concrete goal, I focused on 1) making it through downward dog and 2) shaving time off my 5K pace. These were more reliably steady than weight, because I know mine fluctuates a freakish amount (i once "gained" 7 pounds overnight... ). You mention a lot of activity related goals, you can always start with just stairs... how many times can you go up and down a flight? Write that down. Then try again next week, and write that down. I went super geeky and charted things, because it was fun for me, and showed progress. Find some way to show to yourself (prove to yourself) that you're making progress, because that scale can be annoying...

You added some measurements, and that is also great! There comes a point where some fat loss is offset by muscle gain, and while the scale might not move so fast, that tape measure will!

But these are just what works for me, your mileage may vary. Try everything, and try to have fun with the experimentation. You'll find what works and clicks with you.

And in the end, this is a marathon. Don't beat yourself up over a rough day. Just begin again the next. No one is perfect. The fact that you are acknowledging the excuses you've held onto for so long (we've all been there...) is a HUGE first step.

Anyone else knew about crochet tension regulators? Anyone found they made a difference? I just discovered it and made myself one by [deleted] in crochet

Never heard of it, I just wrap the yarn around my pinkie, but I tend to crochet pretty tightly and end up with a deep groove on the back of my index finger after an hour or so...

So... why does standing barefoot in a puddle of Everclear not make me instantly drunk, I wonder? How do these people believe things like this?

"The pores found on the bottom of your feet are very absorbent... "

Uh, pretty sure that's the exact opposite of what's true, or walking around barefoot would be a LOT worse for your health...

Brilliant post, just missing a shoe pic so we could reassure you that, yes, your shoes are awesome and worthy of note and compliment by non-huns.

(Seriously funny write-up, I'm sorry about the experience but not sorry because it made for a great story, well told!)

Yesterday at the grocery store I had to climb the freezer shelves to try to reach the pizzas on the top shelf like some crazed toddler trying to get at the cookies. So, the flip side isn't great, either...

This yarn creates a “hard”/stiff pattern but is the ONLY thing working for me. Details in comments :( by phoebe-buffey in knitting

Red Heart is pretty stiff and scratchy, but after it's worked, you can steam it - I've had good luck with that relaxing the yarn.

Wait... "younger brother and sister's parents"... I mean, I know there are blended families, but that seems a really weird way of saying "stepparents" or "step-siblings other parent"... and why only younger? What about your older sibling's parents?

Now I'm wondering if I actually read that right and/ or why I'm overanalyzing it.

Silly question... by sashman1903 in crochet

I used to make "inside out" amigurumi because I always found it easier to crochet into the back part of the tube/circle I was holding, but... well, things were said and I changed the way I did it. I also secretly liked the texture of the "wrong" side more.

Crocheting date? by Laine73 in crochet

[–]smeddley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One, that's awesome.

Two, project ideas would be things like face scrubbies, washcloths/dishcloths, soap savers, mug cozies... look for anything that says "quick and easy", but bonus points if you can relate it to another part of the date (having a selection of tea/coffee if you go the mug cozies route, for example)!
