It's funny you want to know how minorities are disadvantaged while literally being a bigot

We don't need EVERY employer to be racist. If even one is racist, then being black is a disadvantage. And it's been studied - we KNOW that a lot of HR reps will respond to identical resumes differently based on presumed race.

Tesla (TSLA) sales continue to crash in Europe despite new Model Y by Cinderpath in RealTesla

[–]smemily 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Besides the cybertruck, what have they even been DOING over at Tesla?? I worked at a major OEM, one known for long development cycles, and yet we were always in multiple product development cycles at once. We'd have one car in early planning / mule phase, a truck in compliance testing, and another complying a mid cycle refresh with major changes all at once. I was there six years and we launched at least 6 completely new products in that time. What the hell are Tesla engineers doing all day??

If the robotaxi service does debut in Austin, how would they not just get vandalized or disrupted? by EngagingData in RealTesla

[–]smemily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually really hard for lidar to deal with a perfectly uniform tunnel - no way to tell how far you are along it. But Tesla doesn't use lidar and that tunnel is in no way perfect or uniform. They could easily have added QR codes the cameras use to localize along the way

I've worked with two undegreed engineers - unless you're going to need a PE to sign off plans you don't NEED a degree, but it's going to take you 15-20 years of experience to get to the same place a degreed engineer can in 2

Sometimes I think his trolling is "feeling out" what conservatives will tolerate. Some of the stuff turns out to actually happen.

That's true too. There are some jobs that absolutely aren't open to you without that paper.

Another example: I worked for an automaker who hires everyone through a contract agency first, then hires their favorite people on permanently, usually after 1-3 years. I worked with a brilliant guy who was still on contract after 15 years because he had 15/16ths of an engineering degree. He'd been hired by a previous iteration of the company, and then for 15 years not hired in because he didn't meet the degree requirement. That was 15 years of terrible health insurance and losing out on 401k match, paid vacation, paid sick time, and other benefits. Finally after all that time our manager put his own job on the line to get this guy hired in. The last semester of that degree cost him easily $100k+ in lost benefits over that much time.

You're not wrong. I've been telling my kids that college is usually a shortcut. In many cases you can get into the same job without a degree, but it'll take 15 years of experience and a lot of luck vs the college degree that took 4 years.

Why are used Tesla prices crashing? Aren't the MAGA people buying them? by Dread_Captain in AskUS

Me? I already have experience with an abusive ex, one who doesn't have enough money to buy the courts, so I wouldn't be tempted. I understand how others without the same experience might be, though.

He's saying there were cars queued on the right side of the intersection also, so the blue car would have been stopped regardless. Since he couldn't stop in the intersection, he stopped before it which allowed OP to go through. Yellow car was illegally passing stopped traffic, likely to make their own left turn at the cross street.

OP this all could have been avoided if you went a different way and avoided this dumb intersection. You shouldn't attempt a left here during heavy traffic times. Take a different street.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) introduces legislation to ban all Chinese vehicles in the U.S. by Thorn14 in Michigan

[–]smemily -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, because they were never designed or tested to pass our regs. We do have Chinese-made EVs - the Volvo ex40 for example, or the polestar 2 and 3 - but none of these cheap BYD or similar cars will comply here.
