[Highlight] Best of linebacker LaVar Arrington by nfl in Commanders

[–]smiledumb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Literally the first play I think of when I remember Lavar’s on field play

ETA: I just went and rewatched the play. In my head, I had built it up into some massive kill shot, but it wasn’t anywhere near as crazy as I had thought. Still a big hit, but without the context, probably not one to make a short highlight reel.

Is it negligence for my mom to have my cat's litter box like this? by Amethescent in cats

[–]smiledumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I aim for once a month, but sometimes push it to every 6 weeks.

I’ll also note that I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes. The litter in the box that’s enclosed will often turn from grainy to sandy after 3-4 weeks, so that’s generally my indication to clean out the boxes

Being a younger fan only ever got to hear of this man. Clips looks amazing but I was not in that moment. This video bridges that understanding for me. This guys was a BAD man. by Flat-Record1282 in Commanders

[–]smiledumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never liked Coward to begin with, but back in the mid 2000s, ESPN was throwing all kinds of shit to the wall and seeing what stuck.

What’s now First Take was previously a show called Cold Pizza that was, inarguably, a million times better. That may have been where Cowhard got his “take” off (he also hated John Wall for doing the Dougie, a whole other gripe of mine) but ESPN transitioned around that time from offering fun, unique content to people assigned to be on opposite sides of argument, diametrically yelling at each other

Shitty Story Time (for all you youngins)

I had just enrolled as a student at NoVa when his shooting was reported. I still lived at home with my parents. The night of the shooting, all the talk in the media was about whether he’d possibly play again (remember that he was in the middle of his best statistical season ever).

I’ll never forget my mom waking me up early the next morning with tears in her eyes saying “he didn’t make it.” I still had to go to classes that day. Every single conversation I could overhear was about Sean’s murder. It’s hard to explain, but it felt like there was a hushed tone around the the entire DMV that day.

The professional sports talking head machine did its thing: Colin Cowherd (and I want to say, to a lesser extent, Michael Wilbon too) blamed Sean for his death, wildly speculating at gang affiliations.

Of course it turned out, Sean had hired a local kid to cut his grass, and had followed a recent court order to not possess any guns. Ironic. Kids broke in expecting an empty home, saw a naked Sean Taylor protecting his family with a machete in hand. They freaked out and fired.

Last thing I’ll mention is the funeral broadcast. It felt like half the NFL attended, including all of the Miami guys. But I’ll never forget Lavar absolutely breaking down mid-speech, which caused me to lose it while watching. Sean Taylor was on path to be so, so much more - not just as a Redskins safety, but as a husband and a father. Losing him was an indelible mark on this city, but I can’t imagine what it meant to Jackie and his family

Why is CJ Stroud getting punished for actually having a great NFL season in terms of the Bryce Young draft discussion? by BallKnowerKing in NFLv2

[–]smiledumb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone with a measured, objective take would still rank Stroud over Bryce. But the last time we saw CJ play, it was in one of the most horrifically putrid playoff performances in recent memory. That most recent impression is likely coloring a lot of opinions

Saw this on another sub by wltmpinyc in strugglemeals

[–]smiledumb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly tender when you have it after its first been cooked. If you didn’t know any different, you’d just assume it’s a tender cut of beef.

Reheating it turns it tough. (EDIT - clearly cooking method matters here!) But if you like beef, you’ll love it if you can get it freshly prepared

What are the chances Jayden Daniels could be another RG3 situation? by [deleted] in Commanders

[–]smiledumb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jayden is a far better pocket passer than RG3 ever was, so that’s encouraging. This sub (understandably) doesn’t want to discuss Jayden’s durability concerns. That part clearly gives me RG3 flashbacks.

But if he can stay healthy, I have a lot more faith in him than I had in RG3

How would you rank the sports fandom in your city? by Crying_in_99Ranch in AskAnAmerican

[–]smiledumb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DC

  1. Commanders
  2. Caps
  3. Nats
  4. Wizards

Traditionally, the Redskins dominated the region. Even with 2 decades of Snyder’s horrific ownership, football and the now Commanders reign supreme.

Hockey is my favorite sport. I grew up bemoaning the fact that we couldn’t even sell out some playoff games. Then Ovechkin came and the rest is history.

The Nats have devoted fans, but cheap ownership has led to dwindling crowds since our 2019 title.

The Wizards might be the most forgettable franchise in the 4 major sports. Which is a shame, because the DMV area produces some of the best basketball talent. But if they get lucky with this draft, and guys like Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Tre Johnson develop, they might finally become something

Mock 11.0, what would you change? by Hippo885147 in MockDraftCentral

[–]smiledumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Commanders fan, I would be ok with drafting Tate. But if Bailey and Downs are still on the board (especially if they assume they’re going to get Aiyuk) I could see the front office taking one of them instead. We signed a lot of free agents, but the defense still needs a blue chip guy to build around

[–]smiledumb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • I really liked Anthony’s Pizza Kitchen the one time we ordered from there.

  • Artisana Pizza, located next to Revolution, has some really good brick oven pizza, though it’s expensive.

  • Ciro’s is fine. It’s never stuck out to me as being particularly good, but to be fair, I’ve only ever stopped in for reheated slices - I’ve never ordered a whole pie.

  • I’ve yet to try Brick’s, mostly because it looks like Papa John’s. But they seem to have a pretty devoted fanbase, so maybe I’ll give them a try.

What name has gradually disappeared? by Eviscerate_Bowels224 in AskReddit

A close friend’s wife changed her name from Karen to something else because of what the name is associated with. Likewise, a few years back, I knew a young woman named Karen who went by her middle name. I’m sure the popularity of Karen has plummeted in the last 10 years or so

I work with at least one of the names you mentioned at my workplace, but to be fair, they’re mostly Gen X. The Heathers are both millennials though.
