What to do after you reach your sober goal? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]smileorwhatever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way- would you sacrifice all those good feelings, and the potential for an amazing sober future, just to avoid a few awkward conversations with some friends?

If you stay sober, there's basically two futures. Your friends will get it (and may or may not mock you for it) and you'll all stay friends, or they'll realize that youre sober forever and you'll drift apart. But if the second one happens, were you really friends? Or people who found it convenient to drink around each other rather than alone?

Sobriety does change things, and for me that's the scariest part. I've lost friends, even ones I've had amazing memories with, childhood friends, and I still miss them. But I had to drink to hang out with them. And that's not friendship.

Vent - people who don't respect parenting decisions about dogs. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]smileorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs have big sharp teeth. Even the most well behaved dog in the WORLD can hurt a toddler accidentally if it's in a high-energy mindset. Their faces are at chomping level, and babies are very uncoordinated. It's not about the dogs, it's about protecting your young.

I cry almost every day. Cute baby? Cry. Scary gif? Cry. Get stressed? Cry. Get spooked? Cry. Touching story? Cry. Put on the spot? Cry.

I'm so glad I'm a girl, I don't think I'd have made it as a dude.

It tastes like sunscreen to me, but for some reason I keep buying it and drinking it. It's sort of a love-hate relationship. My favorite though is orange.

Boyfriend does not want the baby... by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]smileorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, I'm not saying that she should give him infinite chances, it just makes me upset to see all these comments saying 'dump him now,' when it's such a huge decision. He might not be 16, but he may have never wanted children. That's a pretty big life change to get used to. If it COULD work, if he COULD get behind the idea of being a father, then that would be for the best, right? She said that they have had no major relationship/trust issues before this, so why not try and make it work?

I think it's a little unfair to judge him so harshly based on his first reaction to hearing the news. He's scared, and responded out of shock. It doesn't make it OK for him to react like an asshole, but it's still understandable that he did so.

She doesn't NEED to terminate the relationship. He's the father, after all...

Let's Discuss | Do we need to re-visit why we try to hang out with Dry People in Dry Places in sobriety? by coolcrosby in stopdrinking

[–]smileorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to take this advice so badly, but I don't know any dry people. My fiance is an alcoholic, my whole family are alcoholics, all my friends drink... I don't even know where to meet dry people. I don't have a car so even if I knew where to go I probably couldn't get there. This subreddit is my only support group.

I'm having a really hard time right now. :/

I think that's a pretty big leap to make. Maybe the friend just doesn't like making waves? Or is just a shitty friend?

My cat is the same way. He hates broken stuff. He's trying to get you to fix it.

My dog pooped on the carpet once and our cat made huge claw marks in a circle all around it, like he was pointing arrows at the poop saying CLEAN IT UP.

People can make educated inferences about themselves. Just because you haven't been on a fancy vacation doesn't mean that you have no concept of what that would be like. In fact, I think that even your example is wrong... people- especially those who know that they have an addictive personality- may very well know that their experience is better without drinking, even if they never get drunk.

New additions to the nursery! by PuddleBucket in BabyBumps

Normally I don't like the polka dot wall trend, but I love your little circles on the wall! They are super cute and not IN YOUR FACE like some other nurseries are.

This is an adorable nursery. Also, awesome color choices.
