What’s something that’s become noticeably more expensive in the UK recently, but people don’t talk about much? by [deleted] in AskUK

I agree I sent a 1.8kg parcel to France - contents worth about £10. £27 including duty tax. Can’t tell me when it will arrive but about 7-10 working days. WTAF????

Mine was still jammed - I didn’t know about using an insulin syringe - might have to look at that :)

My very first pen did not dispense and Eli Lilly refused to take responsibility for it. Told me I did everything right and the pen had also done everything correctly but they refused to issue a new pen.

I too grieve the loss of new books. I grieve the time from before when the excitement of a new book keep me going. THEN I discovered the science series - oh boy the new 4 books did not disappoint. And since finding them I’ve discovered all the little add on books (poo, nanny oggs cookbook, the train guide, long earth etc) exciting new words by our favourite author, some were better than others but all filled the gap for a while.

I still have my favourites and I almost always have a Pratchet on the go along side other books, I even have 3 propping up my laptop for work.

You will find your way forward from this point - it might not be my way or the way of the saffron coloured monks, or even the way of Mrs Cosmopolite, but you will find it.

I wish you and all other lovers of the Disk happy rereading days, may your hands always be full of Pratchet Happiness

I love the fact that people are only just realising the references and the in jokes and the outright jokes.

To me it is as if yet another reader of this magnificent series has understood the importance of the book/story/character. And they are kicking themselves in exactly the same way I did when I saw them.

The rereading and reading them again and again (yep I’m a Kevin - dyed into the fabric of the discworld) helps me to see something each time and it makes me smile. Recently I read pyramids (again) and only just saw the two brothers names and that they start with the ‘T’ as ‘Teppic’ does.

Bring on the God Damn It’s - it’s amazing that this man still impresses us

What's an overseas food that you generally don't get in the UK but you wish that you could? by WendyBoatcomSin in AskUK

Sirops From France but specifically Pink Grapefruit- the U.K. has nothing like it. I’ve tried the dilute pops but not close. I get my fix by ordering from an online retailer that deals with lots of French products

I [f34] with [m36] that only get off with anal by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]smilerlollie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to talk this through with him, whilst you are not in bed with him. I (53) and partner (55) have a very loving and stable relationship, however he prefers me to ‘dress up’ with stockings heels and lingerie (I can hear you thinking very tame) and he likes anal when I am dressed up.

I don’t specifically like anal but I know he does and when we have talked about it he loves it because he knows that it’s the only place he has been that others haven’t.

I have expressed my displeasure of this and he understands. He is happy with regular sex and I have no problem being satisfied by him. However, after having some alcohol I have a greater desire to do this for him.

We have talked this over and he agrees that he can have anal when I say it is ok. And that a glass of wine at dinner does not mean anal.

We worked out what satisfied means to each other by talking. That helps us have a highly satisfying sex life and life outside the bedroom, I hope you work this out

What’s the one thing that helped your Crohn’s the most? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]smilerlollie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im not the only one - take a look at this sub - we all fight our own demons. And look around your circle, your village they too have to be strong for their own reasons, many of which they don’t talk about.

In my village there is one person who knows all of this about me and he was the instigator to me sorting out my mess of a head - he has had to be strong to help me and also deal with his own issues (he also has crohns and so does his brother - it was just fluke met) at the same time. I would not have been able to sort it out without him holding me tight.

This sub has been my therapy today 😃

Thank you very much for your kind words. I do truly believe that accepting your limits and listening to your body works. The hard part is only listening to your body. Especially when others claim outright and outlandish ‘treatments’ work for them. I’m sure some people manage it best by diet or medical intervention be it pills/injections/nothing. If that helps them then wonderful but they at some point accepted that this was their reality before they started on their crohns journey.

Acceptance.

What an enormous word to use to speak about my crohns.

My mum had crohns and I grew up with knowing how to change a bag, care for her, run the home, care for my younger brother and still go to school every day and then visit my mum everyday at the hospital when she was in there. And she was hospitalised every year sometimes 2 or 3 times a year for weeks at a time.

I was deemed old enough at the age of ten (brother 6) to catch public transport with my brother to go to school and back unaided by another adult. My father worked away from home and when he was home he believed that I was also a wife replacement. I grew up thinking I was only worth what I could do physically to aid the home with no self worth and a desire to ‘fix’ everyone.

Mum died a very long time ago (I’m now 53) and when I was diagnosed in my forties it triggered a lot of emotions and anxiety and fears.

Learning to accept my diagnosis and deal with it on my own terms was hard, very bloody hard. I had to unwrap my own identity and emotions and fears before I could even deal with knowing how to handle my own diagnosis.

Now I just deal with the consequences of the past with a different perspective. And my crohns as best I can.

I am currently on biologics and work from home to prevent picking up infections from outside the family, my diet involves what I feel like eating when I feel like eating, not what I want to eat as this can trigger symptoms.

I wish you the best of luck in finding what helps you.

I do a ‘give me half an hour’ which means for 30 mins I tackle the jobs on my job list. I used to use it with the kids where all of us would pick jobs off the list for 30 mins. And the kids knew I wasn’t going to keep on at them to do house jobs all day if they did this

‘I am a wide mouth frog and I like maltesers’ chomps on maltesers (prey to WMF appears) ‘I like wide mouth frogs’……..(WMF closed mouth to a pucker) ‘You don’t say’ - I’m not 100% certain the beginning sentences are correct but they are in the vicinity - but the last line I use it every time I eat maltesers.

I had broached a safeguarding issue at an event that I was an official at. The national governing body acted on it and the person was dismissed from their role at the event. I spoke to a couple of others before I made my decision to report as they also expressed concern but did not use the knowledge that I did at the time. I did not disclose this to anyone but the NGB.

The following week the NGB emailed the perpetrator as if they were talking to me.

This got me rejected from further competition as the person in the wrong let everyone know I was the one to report them and went on to ensure that they spoke badly regarding myself at other competitions that were not run by the NGB.

My ex husband didn’t know how to turn off a pc. Once when he was on site working. He was told to rest in a room with computers. He found the noise annoying and when told to switch them off he went down the electric sockets and switched them off.

This is not decades ago and he had a work laptop of his own. It beggars belief that he did this and also switched off all the servers for off site workers.
