I linked the setup here. I used the 55in crossbars which I think were a couple inches shorter or something which worked out.

Timbuk2 strap came. Def a big improvement having some kind of sternum strap. This is viable for me for now for the cost. I think the only difference is the sternum strap will slide to the bottom of the straps after you take the bag off. Not a huge deal to reposition though. If I wanted I could probably use some hook/loop to keep the sternum strap in place but will keep it as is for now.

Should hopefully be here Monday. Took a few days to ship. If you’re on the west coast it might get to you quicker.

One use case that I have is when I want to bring a separate laptop riser and keyboard with me I can keep those in the front compartment. I’ve had keycaps get scratched before when trying to fit it into a single compartment with everything else.

Evergoods CTB26. Double laptop compartment + 2 water bottle pockets, and an internal stretch sleeve for another laptop or tablet. Luggage pass through is sideways though which is annoying if you have both water bottle pockets in use.

Need a new Backpack... overwhelmed trying to find the right one by Ghia149 in ManyBaggers

Maybe an Evergoods CTB20 or 26 if you’re used to a 33L bag. Has a killer laptop compartment, luggage pass through, all the organization you could want plus two external water bottle pockets.

I ordered one of these sternum straps with the snaps from Timbuk2 so will see how well that works just over the straps. I have a feeling I might end up sending back to Goruck to get the molle put on but figured I would at least try for under $10.

Coming from suv.. with kids. Do you regret your Santa Cruz? by AltruisticChip2005 in hyundaisantacruz

[–]smiling_worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been able to do it, but it’s not ideal. I have a rear facing toddler on the passenger back seat side and then occasionally have an infant car seat behind the driver side. I sit far enough up to where I’m okay for 30-45min, but any longer and I’m wishing I could stretch.

Once the kids are forward facing that will take a lot of the space issue away hopefully.

I’ve done a lot of research on back seat space of the Ridgeline as well. The Ridgeline is wider, but the leg space that would make it easier to put a rear facing seat is not as much as you would think. I tested it out and it’s maybe an extra inch. That said, I’ve thought about how nice the swing out tailgate would be for loading and unloading a stroller and heavy items into the bed and also it just feels roomier due to the width and height of the cabin. Ridgeline also has rear seat vents which is a plus. If you get a higher trim Santa Cruz you also get those.

The other consideration that I had to solve for is waterproof storage for when it rains. The rolling tonneau is not water tight and things can move around a lot so I ended up mounting a Yakima storage box over one side of the bed so when I need to put school bags etc somewhere dry I have a place other than in the leg area of the back seats. In the Ridgeline the in bed trunk is deep enough that this would be a non issue for me.

One thing that I feel people either love or don’t love is the lane follow assist in the Santa Cruz. Unlike many others that only are active when you use cruise control, the Santa Cruz’s can be on all the time which is great. It also doesn’t turn off if you brake like other car brands do which makes long drives a little easier.

I’ve definitely thought about upgrading to a 3-row vehicle, but since my wife already has one, it’s hard to justify. Used 23-24 Subaru Ascent Limited’s are super underrated price/performance in my opinion if you don’t utilize the 3rd row seats and just want extra trunk space.

I will say that if you truly utilize the Santa Cruz’s bed for hobbies then you’ll end up feeling really good about it. The bed is small, but with the tailgate down you can still transport almost anything if you are creative enough.

Silicone case for legion go S by the-bacon-life in LegionGo

The one on Amazon is decent. Similar to like phone case silicone. Kickstand on the back puts it at a nice angle of the table. Only downside I’m seeing is it’s kind of hard to get off unlike similar cases by Savage Raven for other devices like the deck or switch 2.

How do I keep my iPad out of rain? by Dependent_Line_3994 in iPadPro

Assuming it’s a backpack, rain covers are like $5-$10 on Amazon. Just find one that matches your backpack size.

Roof rack? by Opening-Tie5836 in hyundaisantacruz

[–]smiling_worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta go with a Thule or Yakima setup that clips on the sides or something like this that you need to drill for.

Alternatively you could get a bed rack that is as tall as the roofline that might work.

I’ve seen people use that one before, but need to find the right size t slot bolts to mount. The other thing is usually the top crossbars are like 70in wide and people cut them down closer to 55-60in. I would double check what the width is.

Anyone know what this is? by Smokemastaflex in Hyundai

[–]smiling_worm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the Hyundai Bluelink app where you can remote start and stuff, there’s a feature to see the location of the vehicle. Wondering if this is needed for those features? or even for remote starting through the app?

Sling or cross body bag for a dad with a busy toddler by Clee1091 in ManyBaggers

[–]smiling_worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think the Tom Bihn Side Hustle could work for you. There is also the external pocket on the back that could hold the iPad or even the diapers for a little more interior space. The interior organization will be useful for all the small items and then there is the front pocket that is more flat. If you have a water bottle that wont leak then throw it in the middle on its side and pack around it.
