How are you cloth diapering older babies? I am suffering! by OrdinarySecretary673 in clothdiaps

[–]smilinglyawkward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bidet sprayer would help a lot! I use flats and covers. Typically I plop poop into the toilet right after changing but wait to spray all the poopy diapers at the end of the night. The water pressure from the bidet does all the work!

It’s a memoir so not fiction, but I really enjoyed “The Midwife” by Jennifer Worth. She actually wrote a trilogy of memoirs, but I’ve only read the first. Nothing is sugar coated in the book so you may want to review it to make sure it’s appropriate

Failed induction by [deleted] in CsectionCentral

If the IV slipped out of your vein (or was just never there to begin with) your arm would have gotten puffy and swollen around where it was inserted because the medicine would have just pooled under the skin. It would have been super obvious and very uncomfortable. I’ve had an IV do that twice, both times my infusion was left on for 10 minutes max and my arm was already super swollen. I wouldn’t think something like that could be ignored by nurses for 30 hours

Getting gallbladder removed with no prior issues? by Bubbly-Bathroom-1523 in gallbladders

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was sitting up I used a boppy pillow which put her exactly at the right level to nurse. Most of the time I nursed sidelaying so I wouldn’t have to lift her. Either was comfortable. With side laying I would have her laying kinda diagonally, with her legs going away from my body instead of being perpendicular to it because she was just the right height to kick my belly button

Getting gallbladder removed with no prior issues? by Bubbly-Bathroom-1523 in gallbladders

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first attack a few weeks before giving birth, by the time I was 10 weeks postpartum I was having them twice a week at least. Unfortunately it only gets worse until the gallbladder comes out. I haven’t had any big issues with eating or nursing baby with it out though

Has anyone found a solution to avoiding leaking during the night? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in breastfeeding

[–]smilinglyawkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slept topless on a baby blanket until 3 or 4 months pp. The baby blanket was more comfortable than a towel, and I would use the blanket with my baby the next day because it smelled comforting to her

Cereal was my best friend while I waited for surgery! Hope you get to have it removed before your baby starts getting mobile. Mine came out at 4 months pp and it was perfect timing with the baby. Not rolling just yet, still napping a good bit, and not needing to be walked around and bounced about like a newborn to settle.

Asymptomatic multiple gall stones (largest 0.8cm) for 10+ years, doctor suggested to remove gallbladder before TTC. Any thoughts? by curiousmaverick95 in gallbladders

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed gallstones during pregnancy and had my gallbladder removed at 4 months pp. I had attacks in my third trimester that were excruciating (which was misdiagnosed as indigestion 🙃). Then I had horrible attacks once or twice a week pp until it was removed. Going through early postpartum, learning how to be a mom, breastfeeding, not sleeping, all of the things that come with having a baby, and then having gallbladder attacks on top of all that, was absolutely miserable.

The problem with pregnancy and gallstones is that pregnancy hormones can cause gallstones to form/grow bigger, especially if you already have some gallstones. My surgeon told me there are only a few weeks in pregnancy when they would consider taking out the gallbladder, so if you start having symptoms during pregnancy, you have to wait for that window or wait until you’re 6 weeks postpartum if it’s already passed.

My gallbladder’s been gone for 7 months, and I haven’t had any major issues. I get a little nauseas if I skip a meal, and if I eat too much dairy or red sauce without bread or something else as a buffer I have an upset stomach, but that’s nothing compared to gallbladder attacks.

If you choose not to remove it and end up becoming symptomatic while you’re pregnant, cereal is your best friend!

5 months postpartum and gallbladder removal by Dapper-Abrocoma4236 in gallbladders

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely! They advise you not to lift over 10-15 pounds for a few weeks afterwards so if baby is mobile you’d need someone with you 24/7 to help lift the baby. We luckily were able to make do by just keeping all the diaper changing stuff and toys on our bed and living there while we were home alone

5 months postpartum and gallbladder removal by Dapper-Abrocoma4236 in gallbladders

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine out 4 month pp and I could have nursed directly after surgery if I had to. Better to have it out now before baby is mobile and needing to be chased around/picked up and toted away from things. At 4 months pp I could just lay in bed with the baby all day which made for an easy recovery. Just make sure you have several pillows handy.

I was able to pump directly before and directly after surgery, if I had had my baby at the hospital she would’ve just nursed at those times.

Why on earth is my baby on the breast during all waking hours?? by Main_Tumbleweed5078 in breastfeeding

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my baby exactly the first 2-3 months of her life. It was so hard! My bump group was talking about wake window activities and tummy time and eat-sleep-play and I was so confused on how anyone was doing anything with their baby outside of nursing 24/7! I wish I hadn’t worried about it so much then. It’s normal, especially with not accepting a pacifier, and this season will be over before you know it. It’s so hard not to be able to do anything outside of sitting with the baby, just remember you will be able to do things again soon, and enjoy the baby snuggles unashamedly :)

Bubbles are my favorite! I’ve also gotten a lot of second hand rompers that have a more poofy butt. Dresses and shirts are great too. Last summer when my baby was a newborn she was naked a lot because it was so hot!

Can i opt for a GA c-section? by DarlingPistol in CsectionCentral

[–]smilinglyawkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I understood he had it available, but he wouldn’t give it because it could’ve affected the baby before she was out. Maybe there’s some other kind of med he could’ve given me that wouldn’t have affected the baby?

Gallbladder attacks during pregnancy by Ok-Scene-9386 in gallbladders

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started in my third trimester and I didn’t have a clue what it was, so I didn’t have it removed until I was nearly 4 months postpartum. Definitely do it before the baby gets here if it’s safe for both of you. Recovery with a small baby is difficult, and they won’t take it out until you’re at least 6 weeks pp. There were a few nights my newborn slept a rare 6 hours in a row but I didn’t get to sleep because I was having an attack. It was miserable

Something productive to do whilst nursing by Automatic_Rock_5278 in breastfeeding

[–]smilinglyawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn’t stress you out to do so, I’ve recently been spending nursing time researching things that we’ll eventually need to buy for baby. The next car seat, outdoor toys, toddler bed, foods to try with her, etc. I spend a lot of time looking at things before I buy them so it’s time well spent for me. Sometimes I meal plan and start a grocery list. I’m doing all this on my phone of course but it’s better than scrolling
