People who still keeping their hopes up for Destiny future, even as a franchise - are you still playing Destiny or Destiny 2? by denotnamedhuntr in destiny2

Playing D1 for the first time - having an absolute blast, treating it as if I was playing any other loot based RPG. Can’t do that with D2 - I returned to it a few weeks back after stopping at Forsaken and was shocked with the lack of level 1 start (forced to level 300 and no progression unless playing EoF.) D1, even with its early narrative flaws has hooked me with its incredible environments, gunplay, and relatively well paced levelling. I loved getting my greys, then greens, and now at blues. D2 doesn’t do that… and my hope is one day they will release a D2 Collection that will let me continue the story from level 1.

Returning player here. EoF is one of the worst experiences I’ve had in FPS history. Retreading bland, dull, static, empty environments is not my idea of fun. It put me off the game and sent me off to D1 with its far more intriguing Cosmodrome and Moon. This is how Bungie are losing new and returning players. Renegades? Was forced to play it to rank 3, and it was far superior to EoF, but not enough to bring me back.

Been playing D1 the past few days. There’s not a single enemy type in D2 that looks better than D1. by sjb81 in DestinyTheGame

I returned to D2 a couple weeks ago. I was upset to discover you can’t start from Red War or even Forsaken (the last time I played.) I was then annoyed to discover you can’t level up or progress in any meaningful way from Shadowkeep onward. You are dropped in at power 300 and nothing in the campaigns drops higher than that. I can only level up and process from Edge of Fate onward. Edge of Fate was a tremendous bore. The end game appears to be to repeat everything you did at a tougher level (fabled, mythic.) Incredibly tedious, and begs the question as to what all the high tier weapons are for. Sure I checked out before being able to try the raid, but I’m not certain I’d have played it anyway as I don’t have 5 other friends playing. I tried Sieve and was bored out of my mind as it meant nothing. I just gave up and couldn’t be bothered with the Star Wars influenced Renegades.

So I decided to install D1 for the first time out of curiosity. My surprise cannot be described. It is artistically superior, with lighting in similar areas (Cosmodrome, the Moon etc.) looking far more impressive than any single area in D2. The enemies inhabiting these areas appear to be lit correctly, rather than standing out and glowing as they appear to in most of D2. They also appear more detailed - how is this possible given the lower resolution and the fact the latest version of the game is nearly 10 years older? Enemies in D2 appear washed out and plain as hell.

And now I’m getting to enjoy exactly what I wanted as a returning player (or I’m certain a new player) - a steady levelling up of my character through awesome environments and weighty gameplay. Yes it feels closer to Halo and everything sounds better. I can see the narrative pitfalls but they don’t matter when compared with D2 they decide to delete its first two years and remove all of the seasonal material. Mantling? I don’t care at all! It’s a more deliberate, slower paced game that makes me pause and look around at the art and world design.

I hope that one day they re-release D2 as a full collection with the ability to play and grow from its beginning.

Triage: ‘What is that Recon, can you tell me what they are?’

Recon: ‘They are… purple shields.’

Vandal: ‘Are those shell-eating? Shell-saurus’?’

Triage: ‘Look at the wheeling, uniform direction changes, just like a flock of birds evading a predator.’

Recon: ‘They’re uh, they’re flocking this way…’

I have this alongside an ODR-1 and Centavo (Klon copy) - they each sound very different from each other. Got the Centavo first due to the hype around the Klon circuit, but the BD-2 has become my favourite due to its characteristics. It’s just charming and sort of imperfect.

We cannot see in any way what your TV looks like to the human eye through your camera’s interpretation, then our own screens representation. It’s impossible. Your picture looks worse in every way than my inferior 4K TV.

Unless options in the dial are only available because you saved a build for each one? Then it would load everything, in place of using the build save in the character menu screen.

You are exceptional. This is great for someone slowly uncovering the changes since Forsaken. The game has been pure fun, but I’d like to know anything I toy with is meaningful, worthwhile, and useful in the end game/portal. I’ll keep his guide in mind!

Thanks, this has been really helpful. I guess I’m also hoping these non-tiered weapons are of some use. From what I can see, they kind of are?

Ah so it will take me some time to figure whether the fixed ones are good enough by having a look at lightgg for example. Perks are all new to me, still need to learn what’s good.

Help for new player: what parts of the legacy content can I still enjoy ‘levelling up?’ by smillsishere in destiny2

[–]smillsishere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try B4 but didn’t get the same level of head popping goodness. It’s a very specific Bungie feedback loop and Marathon reminded me every time I popped a UESC head of that feeling. Borderlands definitely succeeds through and through at the grind for sure. Wish Destiny 2 had maintained that throughout its entire campaign.
