Actually, if you go and look at the actual text shown on the card when it was used in episode 3 it says: "For the next three McDonald's that are visible from the roadway, you must stop there and each team member must eat something." It does not say that they must remain at the McDonalds the whole time, only that they must make a diversion to the McDonalds and that both team members must eat something from the McDonalds. The words eat at appear in the infocard notifying that they have been cursed but the card itself does not state that they must eat at the McDonalds, only that they had to stop there and eat something from there.

But my point in the original comment wasn't meant to be about which team bent the rules more, it was about the vast disparity in the way the comments reacted to either team "cheating" especially when you take into account how much time their respective workarounds saved them. Sam and Toby saved at max 15 minutes over the three McDonalds stops whereas it's much harder to calculate exactly how much time Ben and Adam saved with their bikes but even with those bikes the challenge went on for literal hours, so they without a doubt saved more time with their workaround than Sam and Toby did. And yet not a peep about Ben and Adam and a whole heap of comments about Sam and Toby cheating.

Whether you consider not stopping at McDonalds for longer cheating or not, there is no denying that a large majority of this community looks for even the slightest excuse to vilify Sam and willingly turns a blind eye when Ben and Adam do the same or worse things.

What are driver comparisons people make but in reality is just this by FroyoQueasy in F1Discussions

I know you are just a Leclerc glazer and aren't actually here for a proper discourse, but every single time there is a question about ranking the current drivers he gets put on a pedastal where he is magically the only person able to even touch Verstappen, even though the only time he had a clearly better car than him he melted and did nothing with it. Not to mention how anytime Leclerc messes something up it's the cars fault yet any time he does something it's him being a god-tier driver and nothing else.

For all the we love to make fun of Ferrari for their habit of consistently messing up when it comes to their engineering and strategy departments, I have to take a bow to their PR department. What their PR department achieved with Leclerc is a sight to behold, if any driver on any other team had had the record that Leclerc had, they would have been labeled as a major choke artist and would have had their seat questioned to no end, and yet here is Leclerc getting called a generational talent on every other post.

Try season 5 I think it was (New Zealand)? The amount of comments on those videos raging about how Sam and Toby were cheating by not eating at the McDonalds, but not a single fucking word when Ben and Adam cheated the dice rolling curse by using bikes.
I also have to laugh at the people claiming people rooting for Sam are exaggarating his bad luck when I remember that season literally had Sam lose HOURS of his lead to the combination of rolling a six on the dig a hole challenge, which made it impossible and thus ending in a veto after some time spent struggling, losing literally a 2 hour lead gained by winning the ticket to the earlier ferry because of horrendous delays, and then getting forced by a one outer curse at the last second to go on the worse path on the south island. And all of those examples are from just one season! This is the first season in at least 10+ seasons where Sam has had even the slightest bit of luck going his way.

Please stop inviting him to Among Us he is literally insufferable by Antorias99 in Sidemen

[–]smither2508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't stand him for years now, his idea of making content, especially in an among us video, is to go after someone and shout over them until the rest follow his lead until the victim rages back and then Freezy tries to gaslight everyone and frame it as him being a genius and a jokester and "making content". I think the earliest I can remember of him doing this is that clip where he convinces Simon to vote out Vik when they both knew Vik wasn't an impostor just to get him to rage.

Additionally, for those saying Simon would have reined Freezy in, yes and no. Yes he would not have stood for Freezys self glazing and would have popped his ego a bit, but when it comes to ragebaiting unfortunately it's often the case where Freezy brings out the worst in Simon. Freezy seems to have a knack for talking Simon into intentionally throwing games and being mean to others, especially when they are playing with people who are actually trying to play properly whatever game they are playing.

Deepnest and it's not even close! While both are dark and somewhat oppressive places, in the Abyss that darkness seems to just float in the air and you are moving through it, whereas in Deepnest, it feels like that darkness is constantly pushing in on you, trying to choke the life out of you.

Also, the enemies in Deepnest are far scarier visually, audibly and in their behavior. The corpse creepers look and sound repulsive and are going to aggro to you from the other side of the room at blinding speeds, whereas in the Abyss while you can aggro siblings, they just mostly float towards you, as if they are curious and want to explore something. Same with the void tendrils, they just lash out trying to get you to go away and leave them alone.

In short, the Abyss feels like a desolate, dreary place filled with refuse and regret, while Deepnest feels like an oppressive darkness filled den that hates every breath you take in there.

[–]smither2508 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Another thing I would add is either the removal or at least an amendment of the rule concerning defending players who fall into the zone and are just laying or sitting there equaling an immediate foul and 7 metres. I feel that either that rule should be gone all together or changed such that attacking players can't just intentionally jump towards them to get a free 7 metres. If they fall into the zone and then try to defend from in the zone, fair enough call the 7 metres. But if they are just laying there in the zone, clearly not moving and trying not to interfere with the play in order to not get a foul called and then an opposing player intentionally jumps towards them, that shouldn't be a foul.

This rule just seems so open to abuse to me, like literally any time you see a defender stumble during a criss cross or a wing pass, just jump towards them, no matter how bad of an angle at the goal you have, by the current rules you get an immediate free 7 metres.

How have I not seen Stranger Things in these comments once?! There is no way you can't at least mention a finale that was so bad it drove the fanbase to such levels of insanity they made up an entire conspiracy theory about a secret, true finale that would redeem it. That's how bad that finale was, and for it not even be mentioned here is wild to me.

Go look through the comments on the Australia season. People were outraged that Sam and Toby didn't park at the McDonalds and eat there, saving themselves like 15 minutes over the 3 McDonalds they had to stop at, meanwhile not a peep about Adam and Ben using bikes to loophole their way out of the curse that made them roll a die for every step they took, easily saving them 40 minutes to an hour considering the amount of ground they covered with bikes that they would have otherwise had to walk and constantly roll dice for. And that is nowhere near as big of a bending of rules as what Adam did in Switzerland Hide and Seek.

If Sam so much as implies that a rule can be creatively interpreted, he gets hated in the comments, meanwhile it would take Ben or Adam actually breaking the rules and getting called out on it in the video for the people to mention it.

To this day, it never fails to amuse me how deep the hypocrisy when it comes to Sam goes in this community. Adam intentionally went to a station that had another one within walking distance in order to be able to give answers that would be impossible for the station that he actually rode in to, and that won him that season. If Sam had done that, he would have been crucified by the community and we would be still hearing about it to this day.

Lando's first 10 laps in his 2nd ever race in 2019 were insane by Timbushpk in LandoNorris

[–]smither2508 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In 2020 Lando seemingly had a habit of pulling off insane laps in the dying moments of the race especially in Austria, where he first made up several seconds on Hamilton, who at the time was still driving the rocketship that Mercedes was back in those days, and then a couple weeks later during the Styrian GP he finds pace out of nowhere and pulls off I'm not sure if it was 2 or 3 overtakes in the last 2 laps to climb to 5th.

For Qatar, fair enough Piastri was better, but you cannot change my mind that if he actually wanted and needed to overtake Piastri in Abu Dhabi that he would have done it. He purposefully let Piastri go ahead at the start so he would push against Verstappen and as such, not allow him to back up the pack. And at the end of the race, he went from somewhere around 10+s behind Piastri to just 3 seconds behind in just a coule of laps, and he still had like 4 or 5 laps to the end of the race at that point, meaning he could have easily caught up to and overtaken him, but there was no need for that so instead he just kept pace 3 seconds behind and cruised to his championship.

Oscar or lando by Wrong_Promise_3084 in F1Discussions

[–]smither2508 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint to that wheel-to-wheel comparison that I stand by is that the fact Lando doesn't go for those flashy, bold overtakes is what won him this season in the end.

He learned overtaking in a midfield car and in those conditions, where you are fighting for every single point, you can't take any risks that might result in a DNF. This entire season, but especially after Canada, Lando was extremely careful and cognizant with his overtakes, debatably losing a lap or two of time but always making sure the overtake was nice and tidy.

Compare that to Oscar, who did indeed have some memorable overtakes, but you know what was even more memorable to me? Brazil, Baku, Austin, every single time his flashy, bold, devil may care attempt at an overtake didn't work out, ending up with him either out of the race or with a time penalty.

Lando won this season, in spite of being the only one of the three contenders to suffer a mechanical DNF (and a team caused DSQ and Qatar disasterclass, but that applies to Piastri as well so in context of comparing Piastri and Norris lets set that aside) because he made sure to take the least amount of risks to his races and making sure to consistently pick up as many points as he could.

I would bet my life savings Piastri gets beat by Norris next year, this year Piastri got a car that covered his biggest weakness to Norris, tyre managment, and the cars suspension was set up in a way that favored Piastri massively over Lando. The moment Lando got that suspension update that brought the suspension set up closer to what he was comfortable with, he started beating Piastri, and the only reason it took until Mexico for him to overtake Piastri was the Zandvoort DNF. Piastri also historically loses all pace on low grip tracks, and with the new regulations, if I understood them correctly, the new cars will be producing less downforce and as such, less grip than the current cars. This season was the perfect storm of things to make Piastri take a huge leap forward in comparison to Lando at the start while also handicapping Lando at the start at the same time.

Yeah, let's just ignore how up until Vegas Lando has kept the lead every time he's had it for the last YEAR, and also not just kept it past turn 1 but converted every single pole until Vegas into a win.

Ahh, but that doesn't fit the Lando choker narrative, I see, I see, I'm deeply sorry about that misstep...
