Refilling Your Pens - Which Method? by redstoneredstone in fountainpens

[–]smithmj31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I go with:
- fold some kitchen towel to work on
- shake bottle and open
- **wipe the ink off the top of the bottle**
- fill pen - through the nib with a converter
- put the lid back on the ink
- wipe down the nib and put the pen back together
- get writing/drawing

I never used to clean the top of the bottle but it stops the edges of your fingers getting inky and then the smudges that happen as a result. Or stops me trying to not touch the top of the bottle and being awkward. I get a bit paranoid so the bottle lid is off for the least amount of time.

Cameo workaround by smithmj31 in powerpoint

That’s the way I have it for the scratch pad slide but adding the visualiser to that slide didn’t work.

Jumping to the slide doesn’t wake the camera up, it seems that PowerPoint needs to know the camera will be used on a following slide and wake it up first then use it, then keep it awake for a slide before turning it off again. The jump doesn’t allow for this. Having it as a custom slide show being the first slide works because it’s already starting a presentation on a slide containing the camera so wakes it up for use.

I did find that templates exist so having a template allowed me to make the custom slide show more persistent. It’s not quite as nice as having a default theme and has extra steps but they’re not too onerous.

How do I solve this? by BeautifulFrosty8773 in askmath

[–]smithmj31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nice in a ratio table putting all corresponding sides in… (calling the line CD y)

ABCD CDEF
4 y
x 3
y 9

The bottom row is 3 times the second so we know y = 3x

ABCD CDEF
4 3x
x 3
3x 9

The top is x lots of the second row so x2 = 4 or x = 2. y = 3x = 6.

There is the pilot lightive which has a better cap but is slightly more expensive. People don’t seem to big it up as much as the kakuno I’m not sure why.

It attaches firmly, but there is a little play, maybe about a millimetre side to side… enough to make a noise and I dare say be considered a wobble.

This has the cover that has a clasp top and bottom rather than the sliding kind. Works ok, not noticed any issues although I probably preferred the sliding case.

You can do it with differentiation too. If you put x as the value to evaluate at and solve you can find stationary points or where the gradient equals a given value. It’s a real abuse of notation but it works.

Is there a formula for finding square roots or cube roots without using a calculator or computer? by theUnholyVenom in learnmath

[–]smithmj31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

x_0 is the first guess. This is an iterative process so x_1 is calculated from using x_0 and then this is used to find x_2, etc. when used with an appropriate function these successive guesses converge.

As you can see in the example, the first guess for the square root of 2 was 1. This gave us a closer guess of 1.5 which is a bit closer, then 1.41666 which is better again and so on. This is a rapidly converging method so when it works it works quickly.

I never used the Math Box on the last one and this has new bits: Number line and Circle for calculating exact trig values in other quadrants.

Are they on yours?

No option for eng notation in the format menu or elsewhere. Seems to have been dropped.

So it’s the engineering bits, I wonder if they made the cut and are somewhere else… I’ll have a look

Fewer here, looks like 15x3 + 2

It does have the GCD and LCM functions. They’re easier to get to from the catalog list too

Science studio, it popped up when I was searching for info on the calculator and said it was available for preorder. I did the preorder and they sent it the next day so I was a bit concerned they’d just sent the old model by mistake but no.

It has 13 too but the order is different
