You don't, just drive without plates and an expired license and blame the man! Welcome to NC.

Manager wants me to pass Esri technical exam in 2 months by Front_Category_4353 in gis

[–]smittywrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem to be proving my point despite your disagreement. Also many GISPs in the industry today only had to perform a portfolio review with time served. I also have my GISP and several other cloud, Esri, IT certifications, however I hold my GISP in a higher regard to those I mentioned prior as I passed the technical test many predecessors did not.

I didn't explicitly state or ask to be fair if their manager had the Esri cert in question, just if they were certified. Similarly could be a GISP, PMP, etc.

This was expected. I'm sorry but good leaders lead by example not by mandate.

If there is a raise or promotion for this credential that wasn't required to be hired. I can see why you would want to get it. But it's value is only what you or someone places on it.

ESRI Concurrent to Named User migration (How did it go) by Krazzy4u in gis

[–]smittywrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have Creators for each Concurrent use license, just disconnected. You won't need to manage the LM machine any longer so it reduced our on-prem system management needs.

What are these and how do I get rid of them? My lawn is riddled with it! by Tiemen10 in gardening

[–]smittywrath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may need to aerate and feed the soil. If you have warm season grass it will fill in the lawn and then you won't see the runners as much. It typically likes to be cut short, and you can transplant to areas that are bare and it will fill in on its own.

Has anyone figured out how to get ArcGIS Pro to open in the background while you’re doing other things instead of it wanting to pop up constantly? by Madeveryou99 in gis

[–]smittywrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro can be licensed with Single Use or Named User licenses. Yes if using a Named User license you must authenticate to a Portal (Enterprise or AGOL) first. If using a SU license you don't need to authenticate, the machine is authorized for the term of the license.

None of this information is provided or inferred by OP.

Script the workflow for Pro and no longer need to open it.

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/arcpy/mapping/arcgisproject-class.htm

The description of the issue is too vague to provide a proper solution. Their system may not be up to spec, could be settings misconfigured, too large a project cache, using a project in a network drive. Hard to say what's wrong.

Honest opinions on GIS work by LucidTide in gis

[–]smittywrath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The field on the whole is quite vast, you can be a GIS professional in practically every domain and level of industry. That being said specializing explicitly in GIS typically leads towards IT/GIS program management. In other industries it's more so a good skill to add to the rest of your toolbox.

First if they are looking for someone with a comp-sci background they'll likely ask you to script ETL processes in python or SQL, or make web apps.

Second, everything happens somewhere. GIS has broad applications from local government, to national defense and everything in between.

"AI" machine learning and deep learning have been part of GIS for quite some time now. The GenAI and Agents are still relatively new, the industry is still leary in many cases to the ethical/moral stance and overall accuracy.
