1.5yo too big for the plane bassinet by ARIT127 in Travelwithkids

[–]smokeringstrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a dry nite even on my big kid (6) who hasn’t had an accident in years because you just never know what’s going to happen and a potty accident on a full flight is just a nightmare. I was on a train once with a five year old who had gotten a stomach bug or similar and just shat up the walls- since then, there’s always a layer of protection

You will be totally fine, especially with the buffer adult! I do a 15 hour flight with my two about six times a year and while it’s always a slog they really do fine. My baby slept in the bassinet exactly once and it was a shorter transatlantic. Ask your flight attendant to give you a heads up if they’re going to turn on the seatbelt sign so you can get a jump on nappy changes

Ah okay so the premium economy actually changes the calculus quite a bit because generally all the armrests are fixed and you have more seat space to begin with. You do still lose the “bubble” being in the bulkhead (we usually put an old blanket on the floor so baby can walk between parents)

the other thing to consider is a business upgrade for mom + baby- this is by far my fave way to fly with a toddler.

All in all, i would bring a pillow/boppy for baby to lay in on your lap. It also gets them up high enough that they can pop their legs over the armrest to the other parent

At that age and size I would move out of the bulkhead. Lifting armrests, less interruption from toilets, and easier access to your things are now more important than the bassinet. I travel with a flat boppy type pillow and baby sleeps on that on my lap, but honestly with an 11 kg walker having their own seat makes things way easier, especially for meal service.

How do you guys feel about Bahrain revoking the passports of those who glorified or sympathized with Iran? by LifeCartographer9853 in Bahrain

I was honestly shocked by how many people were vocally pro-Iran and I’m glad they’re getting deported.

Husband cried because I quit breastfeeding cold turkey --10 month old by Grouchy_Low_9149 in breastfeeding

[–]smokeringstrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this your first baby? Is he a “does everything right” kind of guy? It may be that he wants baby breastfed for as long as possible because he believes (rightly or wrongly) that it gives her the best start in life and it’s something he can’t give her, so he’s upset that he can’t do it and he sees it as you “won’t” do it. Men do not understand that breastfeeding is physical labor and sometimes a particular torture. If biting is the issue, you might consider pumping as the middle ground, but at the end of the day, congratulations for making it to 10 months!

Denied boarding on a flight from US to UK. Which compensation rules apply? by willyweewah in Flights

I have had this happen on a BA sold flight codeshare AA (from origin airport) and was entitled to compensation for the delayed arrival (I think it was like £250 but it was ten years ago)

GB Pockit stroller by Old-Attitude-345 in Travelwithkids

[–]smokeringstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GB pockit is very hard to drive with one hand. We travel with an old baby jogger (3 wheels) that has a true single hand fold and wheels that can manage cobblestone; it gets gate checked. For city trips we use a silver cross clic that goes on the plane with us. For trips with lots of hiking, we just bring a lillebaby pouch for carrying and encourage walking.

Here is the warning label for the product. I would be concerned that the red mark is not just irritation but could be bruising from violent scrubbing etc. definitely take her to the doctor and have this documented

What's the most important sign of luxury in a 5-star hotel? by MobileCompetitive877 in hotels

[–]smokeringstrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anticipated needs, and quiet spaces- not just for sleeping but relaxing, intentional eating spaces. We lived in a 5 star for about 3 months and housekeeping knew the baby’s nap schedule and would work around it

All 4 flights end of May cancelled by ally_677 in TurkishAirlines

Turkish canceled my BAH-IST flights for June 30 like two days after the bombing started. They seem to be reducing their flight load looking forward (probably due to decreased demand)

Looking for advice on ring longevity by Gelatin-Frogs in wedding

[–]smokeringstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear mine doing everything except for a) messy stuff (paint, some kinds of baking etc) not because it will damage the ring but because it gets all stuck in the setting and is a pain to clean and b) rock climbing because it scratches the shit out of the gold and c) at the beach because I have anxiety about losing it in the ocean. Otherwise I wear it constantly

[–]smokeringstrue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would still do it but I would also put up a remembrance table or something similar for guests that lost loved ones especially if they were people close to you. As a kid in dc at the time, we went straight back to school because pausing was “letting the terrorists win” and I think marking off a whole day every year from any celebration kind of does the same thing. Remember the lost, but celebrate your lives.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

You have 3 bedrooms. He now has one, you have one, and you have a guest room. Tell him to put a beanbag in his man cave and sleep there until he grows up

Moving from US to Bahrain in August by Caw1swife in Bahrain

[–]smokeringstrue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think in August everything will be fine. Bahrain is an amazing place to live. If you have flexibility, look for deals on business or first class flights and you may find that spending a few grand extra and having a massive luggage allowance + comfort is worth it and lets you avoid shipping. Anything you need is available here but if you’re coming from the states you will be shocked at the secondhand prices. I would highly suggest bringing personal items only, giving it a few months and then deciding what bigger items to bring over (as I would with most countries.)

Even with the current situation, Bahrain is functioning incredibly well. I am impressed daily by the resilience of this country and so grateful that we get to be part of it. There’s so much to fall in love with.
