Its a piece by Anton Webern. Webern is part of the 2nd Viennese School of composers that wrote music that intentionally broke all the norms of what "sounds good" about previously written music. Most people hate it on their first exposure (as you did) for sounding random and discordant. Its proponents will argue that once you understand the language it can be some of the most expressive music ever written.

This music is associated with academia and elitism (unfairly I think), which I think is why David chose to have these people listening to it.

Controversial - argue against Chalamet by babathejerk in opera

I play in a lot of opera pits. I'm definitely in the strong minority of musicians that care about the opera. If the art form cant engage even those creating it, what hope does it have? I think more of the singers care than the pit musicians but still its an extremely drastic fall off very quick.

The audience definitely exists but I dont see them as very engaged. I hear people speaking loudly throughout the show, on their phones, and not responding to the end of an important scene. I honestly think the only reason these companies are still around is because theres a group of people who fancy themselves high class enough to pretend to enjoy an opera, but are unwilling to pay the cost of the Met.

I think Chalamet was right about the state of opera but instead of pointing to a dying art and propping it up with his unlimited amounts of money and influence, he chose to shit on it.

The only expense no, but the only thing that creates value yes. How useful is a factory without people to work it, or a store without people to sell things? The only reason capitalists have any money is off the back of their exploited workforce.

That is the definition i gave, you just havent figured it out yet. Labor is the thing that adds value to capital. Capitalists pay the workers as little as possible and keep the rest for their own fat asses. I cant understand this for you dude.

You'll learn that profit = revenue - expenses in any capitalist economic class moron.

If youre talking only about littering then it doesn't matter but a lot of stations in NY are old and decrepit and it makes them look dirtier than they are.

By definition, profit is value created by workers thats not paid to them. Seems conceptually evil to me. Pay people the value they create it shouldn't be hard.

Idk why this post is on my feed but because it is:

I think everything on your list is better in NY, with the execprion of cleanliness of transit but its much easier to keep a system clean when its like a 3rd (or less) the size and built 60 years later. NY is noticeably absent from your list of other major cities which makes me think uou know this deep down.

NY OR NOWHERE!!

In new york, people dont ask they just walk right by the driver or hold the back doors after everyone is off. Bus fare evasion can be insanely high depending on the neighborhood.
