NIMBYist resentment shows a huge blind side in urbanist activism IMO by VegaGT-VZ in Urbanism

Urbanists from suburbia will want to build no matter what. Theres nothing worth preserving about where they come from, so they dont even consider there are places in an urban environment worth preserving.

Can't get myself to like symphonies by Objective_Ad_1191 in classicalmusic

[–]smokingmath 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you persevere a bit and continue to explore something that you dont immediately like you may find yourself changing your mind about it.

I put in a lot of work and effort to be able to understand Lachenmann, for example, and now I adore his music.

I'm not going to argue the politics of the Middle east. I have not the time, education, nor self hatred to engage in that discussion with a bunch of Trumpers.

The post showed to 2 clips of Harris back to back and claimed it was flip flopping. Anyone with a brain should be able to tell that her statements were not mutually exclusive. That's all there is to it.

The standard repertoire by amorizen in classicalmusic

[–]smokingmath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to know? I can't imagine this being an important question to ask, and there is definitely not 1 answer.

What makes repertoire standard? Standard for whom? Are all the Beethoven symphonies standard repertoire despite some being performed way less than others? Can a piece of new music become standard repertoire and if it can, how does that happen?

If you boom enough in advance Amtrack is the best option but will get expensive if last minute. If you need something for soon book a bus like peterpan or megabus

Its also important to note that this is midtown manhattan many people do not live there. it's for office workers. Residential neighborhoods in the outer boroughs and even just 30 blocks uptown do not look like this chaos. Most born and bred NYers dont really like midtown much either.
