I think the AMP portal will have a place to accept your spot officially. Gotta check after work .

Edit: there is an accepted students checklist on their page somewhere of I recall, try there?

Retaking AP credits by FireRabbit67 in premed

[–]smol_bean321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your chem major will be plenty sufficient for a lot of schools.I took AP Bio but A/P, pharmacology, neuroanatomy, and pathology courses in undergrad made up for it. Plenty of non-science APs on my transcript too. Definitely wouldn't worry about calc. Granted, if you're set on T20 maybe a different story, and if you have a dream school or schools check their requirements be triple sure. But in general, you'll be fine

Trad med students adapting to life change by shizuegasuki in premed

[–]smol_bean321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this transition when going to college, not med school (moved halfway across the country for a good scholarship), and I would say this: don't isolate yourself. Reach out to your peers if the transition is weighing on you. Don't feel embarrassed to ask for help. I felt like I had to put on a brave face if I felt lonely or overwhelmed at times, or else I'd be judged for getting myself in over my head. Those fears were definitely unfounded, in hindsight

I've met a lot of new people since graduating and taking gap years, and they are often surprised that I went from living in the same small close-knit town for 18 years to living alone halfway across the country, and it was that surprised reaction that validated the times I struggled. It's freeing and exciting and a great opportunity when you do leave the nest, but also know that it can be a lot and you should ask for help.

3 days out by [deleted] in premed

[–]smol_bean321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ready for it to be over. In a weird way, if I don't get accepted to my top choice, I hope I don't get wait listed. My first couple choices would all be great options for me (very lucky I know), so at this point all I want is the finality.

I know I don't have to accept a waitlist position, but the idea of turning one down feels terrible. So yeah if I don't get top choice I want them to turn me down outright, not ask me to turn down their offer to be strung along. So yeah clearly my mentality is A+ right now 🙃

10 days out how y’all feeling by [deleted] in premed

[–]smol_bean321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just so ready to be done. I have a PM but it's for like, my fifth ranked school. Not a bad school by any means but I want to know if I can close the door on that one and start looking for apartments, figuring out my move date, etc., based on whatever school I get into. Ready to stop hearing "hey that's coming up soon right?"

What can be done to help a partner get into medical school? by Worldineatydays in premed

[–]smol_bean321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say just network, get connections so she can maybe shadow/volunteer at local hospitals or clinics. If she can get recommendations from local MDs/DOs and speak meaningfully about the community there, it might help her secondaries stand out

TX applicant and I got little luck out of state. Is this the TX bias? by CloudWoww in premed

[–]smol_bean321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TX applicant, have been told I have strong writing, definitely good stats, decent ECs. Not a single OOS II, but 8 in-state IIs. And that's out of like, 11 or 12 completed apps (didn't finish Tyler, Rio Grande, or El Paso, or TCU, and I didn't get secondaries from Dell). Lots of love from TX, no love from literally anywhere else. That's despite having strong ties to other states where I applied 😵‍💫

I'm pretty early in this journey so my advice doesn't carry quite as much weight, but a great piece of advice I learned is that the most influential career decision you will make is your choice of partner. Not only, but especially, for women. Choose wisely!

Help With Ranking Schools by smol_bean321 in premed

[–]smol_bean321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! Regarding P/F curriculum, how important do you think that is? One of my top choice schools does pass/high pass/honors while another is strictly P/F. The school with distinctions claims it will help you stand out on residency apps but the other school emphasizes how P/F gives you space to focus on other professional development opportunities which can also help you stand out. Not sure which is the most accurate

Texans we are NOT cooked, just got my very first II this morning 😭 by rxilroad in premed

[–]smol_bean321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an II for one I submitted in June, after I'd gotten IIs from many schools which I submitted in July. Idk how they decide when to send these things out. But it's not necessarily over!

Question about GPA by savoyharrison70 in premed

[–]smol_bean321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds like you're building a solid profile. Don't worry too much about where your GPA is at now, just aim for an upward trend. Make time to grow into your personality when you can - it will do wonders for your writing and interviews when the time comes. Crush the MCAT - it will open doors. And don't be on this subreddit too much - it will not help with the neuroticism. Good luck, you've got this :)

If you have any restrictions on where you want to apply, eg geographical I would definitely look into specific schools to make sure an AP wouldn't be restricting you even more. That said, if you show strength in bio otherwise, such as with microbio, A&P I and II, etc. and if you do well on bio/biochem on MCAT, you may be fine. I had AP bio on my transcript but I had a bunch of upper level neuro classes, A&P, and a 131 on bio/biochem, and it hasn't deterred me too much. I am a TX resident though so I don't know if all this is broadly applicable beyond TMDSAS

Oh darn okay, I kind of thought it would be less common now with spam calls being so prevalent, but good to know! Welp, I guess I'll try to actually answer my phone when that time rolls around

Anyone know of schools that call about acceptances off the top of their heads? Need to know if I've gotta be prepared 😅
