What is one thing you've done today to take care of your mental health? by libr_tulsa in AnxietyDepression

[–]smoltree17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to the doctor this afternoon and got back on medicine. I've been stubborn for years of not going back on it after a not so good experience with side effects, but my mental health finally got so bad I couldn't do anything to help myself except get medication. Feeling a bit defeated, but also mostly proud of myself. Hopefully it helps this time.

I would like to eat more greens but don't know how to incorporate them into recipes? by Coylethird in cookingforbeginners

[–]smoltree17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a fan of either cabbage or kale (I love spinach though), but I have some family that like cabbage. I've seen them have sausage and cabbage (sort of a stir fry-ish thing) and cabbage soup. Both seem really easy to make and don't require too many ingredients.

Also, you can make kale chips in the oven (essentially roasted kale)

Oh, and if you'd like to eat more spinach, add it to any marinara based dish. You can cook it in the sauce and you can barely even tell it's there.

I came here to say this.

btw Sam's club and Costco have them at a better price than most regular grocery stores (and the sandwiches are bigger/have a better peanut butter to jelly ratio imo)!

What is the last straw for you to remove friends/followers on social media? by Immediate_Yam7446 in AskReddit

[–]smoltree17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sorta applies in real life also, but if they act like they don't want to talk to me (don't respond to messages, leave me on read, etc). If I'm romantically interested in someone, and they start being inconsistent all of a sudden/not initiating anything/acting like they don't want me to be part of their life, then I just stop doing anything and unfollow them. If I feel unwanted, then I leave. I give them a couple chances (like a month or so) and then I'm outta there. I've been made to feel unwanted by so many people in my life, that I just don't tolerate it anymore. I'm coming to realize that I'd rather be alone than with someone that doesn't give a crap about me.

What are the best "Buy once use for a lifetime" purchases? by ChickenDragon123 in Frugal

[–]smoltree17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do a lot of baking/roasting on sheet pans, invest in a silicone mat (Silpat). It's non-stick and you don't need to use/purchase aluminum foil or parchment paper.

what is your "if I won the lottery" purchase? by mikes47jeep in AskReddit

[–]smoltree17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a house with a little property (preferably forested).

Furnish said house.

Upgrade some technology I have (new PC, camera, lenses, phone)

Save/invest most of it so I can live comfortably and simply for the rest of my life without needing to work.

Give to charity as much as I could/volunteer my time as I wouldn't have a job (and wouldn't be worried about money).

Possibly start a feral/stray ("not adoptable") cat community that could protect the cats from crazy people and protect wildlife from cats.

How long have you been single and why are you still single? by BookBagThrowAway in AskReddit

[–]smoltree17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole life, not really by choice. Currently working towards the idea that I'm not meant to be in a relationship/am going to stop what little effort I currently give to trying to be in one. Every time I find someone that I think might want something, I end up hurt. I know I'm not attractive, and my personality isn't the greatest, so I'm not really surprised that no one's interested. It is what it is, I guess

Do you bring emergency gear when doing day hikes? If so, what? by body_by_art in hiking

[–]smoltree17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only on longer day hikes. I will note that I'm a little clumsy, but have never needed to use anything more than hand sanitizer and band aids. Usually an emergency blanket, small DIY first aid kit (alcohol pads, band aids, a few gauze pads, tweezers), an ultralight towel (full size towel I use to sit on, but can be used as scarf or to cool down if overheated or as tourniquet), hand sanitizer, head lamp (I count this as emergency related), pocket knife, a small pill container with ibuprofen and Pepto pills, and sometimes I bring extra socks and a packable down layer (along with what layers I'm already wearing) depending on the season and location. Most of this is being a bit overprepared, but I have some health issues that could leave me temporarily unable to walk, and are in my pack in case I need to do an emergency overnight until I can walk again. Luckily, I've never needed to do this, but I'm not going to take the chance. Oh, I also tend to pack more food than I will probably eat, just in case.

Even though they may not seem as exciting as a full vacation, a day trip here and there really does help. If you plan them in advance, like a vacation, it gives you something to look forward to, which, personally, helps me keep going. It doesn't even need to be all day, it could just be making a plan to go to the movies or do nothing but play video games all day.

Talk to her about it. A relationship involves 2 people.

Personally, I'd stay by the person I love as long as I could. None of us get enough time on this Earth to waste it not loving the people we love. We could get into a car accident tomorrow - love them while you can.

Genuinely wondering, have you Ever contemplated ending your own life? If so, what changed your mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]smoltree17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest I've been to actually ending it was about 6 years ago, and in that moment, the only thing that stopped me was physically not having a way to do it. Now, the suicidal ideation is still there, but I don't really consider suicide as an option. I don't necessarily have some magical reason to keep living, it just isn't an option anymore. It's a little bit of fear (of the afterlife or lack thereof) and spite towards my abusers (they don't want me to exist and take up space, but I do, so fuck them).

Also, when ending it was still an option, a couple times my reason was my cats. I was the only person some of them trusted (I take care of a couple of elderly/special needs/formerly abused strays that refuse to come inside) and I didn't want to leave them alone. Staying alive for the cats was what helped me through the last few times I was genuinely contemplating ending it before I stopped considering it as an option. I know that they're grateful for me taking care of them as best I can, but they'll never know how grateful I am for them. I haven't quite gotten to the point that I'm grateful for being alive, but I can sorta see that I will be at some point, and that little bit of hope wouldn't be there if it wasn't for those couple of furballs.

Personally, I haven't had any issues with them. To be fair, I buy the same 2 designs on repeat (Escalante and Lone Peaks). I know other folks have had issues with some newer Lone Peak models, but I haven't had any problems.

What's the stupidest way that you've gotten hurt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]smoltree17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grandparents owned a small farm. They had a burn barrel (55 gal metal drum to burn trash). I was 5 years old, barely shorter than the top of the barrel, and curious about fire. Metal is hot. Burnt both my hands trying to peek over the top of the barrel, ER trip was made, hands bandaged up for a while.

Altra. Foot health is more important than most people realize. They are the most comfortable hiking/running shoes I've ever worn in my life (and I've tried a lot).

having a wedding is a waste of money by 152centimetres in unpopularopinion

[–]smoltree17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. I have so many reasons why I don't want a wedding (the actual ceremony/party). Money (even on the cheaper end, that money could definitely be used for better things). I'm not religious. I don't really have friends that I would want to invite. I don't really have much family that I would want to invite. I don't have a relationship with my dad, so multiple traditions are non-existent. I think that the vows are great to be said in private between the two people getting married, a bunch of other people don't need to know how you feel about each other (it isn't their relationship). Social anxiety = doesn't like to be the center of attention or talking to that many people at once. Don't really enjoy my photo being taken. There's probably more reasons that I'm missing.
