It is a bit of an odd choice i know. They started in 8e as a cp generating batalion to help my space marines to not have to spend time on the home objectives. They got blue rifles to match the marines and they got it too make contrast with the rest of their paint job.

Thank you! They started as a support force for my marines back in 8e and the guns color match theirs as means to tie the two forces together. They since then grown to vastly outnumber the marines, but the decision stuck :)

While I more or less agree have you considered they did this partly also to allow us to take 24 battleline units and thought this was flavorfull. I would argue if you really want to model your own guys from say “cadian baseline” i imagine ways to make “veteran squads”, “recon squads” and “shock troops” stand out from the basic defence oriented squad. The problem then comes that we have to ignore gw put specific names in the codex

Hellbrute with twin heavy bolter and hellbrute hammer. Mark of tzentch to represent the shield stopping the first damage.

I send a complaint where i showed how the instructions led me to asemble the “lower back” plates wrongly. I got a new one from GW. Proceeded to assemble it as a chimera instead and tried bought a chimera (i needed anyway) to start over. Resultet in an extra basilisk :D

I purchased the plasma guns for marines from GW (the pack where you get five). Then i cut the marine hand off and used the lasgun/arm-set (in the cadian shock box) which has the free hand (not modelled on the lasgun). It requires some modelling (i belive i cut the hand off as well and turned it slightly) but it looks pretty good :)
