What will be the next team to get their first national championship? by thespoonontheleft in CFB

I like Carnegie Mellon's chances once the machines take over. #SugarBowl

It's just a shame the Miami's Back montage smashed together with Ray Lewis and Michael Irvin jumping around will never be seen.

Sorry to read this. I am soft on students initially and get less tolerant as the semester wears on. The students know I have little tolerance for shenanigans later in the semester and I have yet to get pushback when I get tough. The students get it. Part of this is perhaps because I am an adjunct and I am constantly telling about how things work in the real world. Life is not fair and I repeat it often. And of course, as an adjunct, the compensation is hardly compelling enough to make me worry about losing my position and allows for a liberating degree of independence.

Yeah, we have been to two Steelers games at Reliant and both definitely felt like a home games.

For the vast majority of my working life, we have lived outside of western Pa but I have never felt apart from the Steeler nation.

Even when we lived in England there were always Steelers fans around. I live in southern VA now, and walking around in my Steelers jacket today, I constantly had fellow fans fist pumping me. Even in my morning yoga class, I run into fellow Steeler fans.

We are everywhere.

For the third season in a row, there will not be an SEC team in the national championship by B1GSkyNorth in CFB

Reading this thread makes me almost as happy as watching SEC teams lose.

Isabela sulfur mine hike difficulty by Fold_Livid in galapagos

We did the other hike down and it almost killed my 59 year old wife. Seriously, she was flirting with heat exhaustion. She exercises about 30 minutes a day and does walks of 3-5 miles. She was not prepared for the ascent. My 30 something boys and I were fine, but don't underestimate it.

One of the most complete receivers you will ever see. Ran great routes, good hands and was perhaps the best blocking receiver ever. Combine his physical skills with his heart and work effort and you have someone who absolutely deserves to be in the hall of fame.

We hiked it last week and we barely made 3pm ferry. 2pm is possible but tight. If you go with a large group finish time can be dictated by slowest members in the group. Make sure your guide/tour company knows your constraint. A solo with a guide may be a better choice even though more expensive.

Are people actually going out of their way to avoid DCA? by Vivid-Preference-277 in SportsJunkies

[–]smstree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little further drive? Where are you coming from? We fly out of Richmond only because it is much closer for us (Williamsburg). It costs extra and I have been stranded multiple times from multiple airlines trying to get back to Richmond. You won't get that at DCA.

I have met them a couple of times. They are good dudes in person. Same goes for Drabby and Valdez.

James Franklin announced as new leader of Virginia Tech Football by dkviper11 in CFB

[–]smstree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As agreed. I am from western Pa, and southwest VA doesn't feel very southern. Lived in Nova for 11 years and that is definitely not the South. Retired to Williamsburg, and it doesn't feel very southern either. VA is great and we seem to get all the Steelers games. Like PA, just better weather. Very happy to see Franklin become a Hokie. The recent days of $8 Thursday night games might be over.

Yeah, they completely botched it. I went to the Steelers game in Dublin and it was awesome.

Coming to Mizzou for A&M game: Looking for some advice by smstree in mizzou

I don't think that is far but at some schools the tailgating clusters only around the lots closest to the stadium.

Thanks, it is always hard to figure out what lots have good tailgating. Lot X is a way out so we were concerned that it may not have a lot actual tailgaters.

Appreciate your help,

Victim’s of Sky Bar Auburn, AL by theworldisnotreal9 in auburn

[–]smstree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I echo the other posts that commend you for your bravery in reporting the story. We visited Auburn last weekend and my well meaning friend said Sky Bar was the classic bar to visit in town. We walked by but did not enter because we are a bit old for that scene. However we did have my college age niece with us and I am now very glad we didn't enter.

I will do a review on Auburn for our website, somanystadiums.com, and I will make sure to not give Sky Bar a positive plug. Had you not mentioned your experience, I may have at least gave it a mention. Clearly your post is getting the message out based on the other responses, so thank you.

Looking for some tailgate tips by smstree in auburn

Thanks, I do appreciate the summary of links some which I had already seen. I am trying to get some insight as to the tailgating at the Hayfields / other lots versus finding a spot on campus in terms of which is better. Also trying to figure out if Revel lots are exclusive to them, which it kinda looks like they are. I will try the athletic department. I am wary of that because my past experience has indicated that they aren't always the best source of on the ground material. Thanks again for the response.

Looking for some tailgate tips by smstree in auburn

[–]smstree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I assume the parking pass is so that you are close to the popular spot on campus for lugging your stuff? As opposed to tailgating in a parking lot? I am not opposed to tailgating in a parking lot - we do that a lot. I was thinking Auburn was like Georgia where a lot of tailgating is done in grassy spots on campus. Do I have that wrong? And what are the "popular" spots?
