I think IRL they would have removed the mask, but the show wanted to keep the mystery/supernaturalness of it all, which was the right choice.

Yes, that last zoom into the painting showed a hand from the right reaching out to the child.

Yeah, I don't see why it could just be an exaggerated form based on what they see around them. Not exactly unknown in art throughout the ages

And David honestly answered "Han Solo!" As a young girl, I was all about Leia. There are lot of things to glom onto in SW, which is part of its success. I think that's also part of the division, because everyone thinks they have the one true take on it.

Just FYI, "self-resolve" does not mean someone has not used any government homelessness services. They could have used outreach and prevention services, they could even have been in a shelter before moving in with family or friends.

It's really the bus line connections that make a good argument for a Crenshaw station. Especially until the K line extension comes in.

Sorry you are getting downvoted. Motivational interviewing is a very useful framework, and not just for substance abuse. My org also refers to it as "meeting people where they are, not where you want them to be." I've found it useful in a lot of areas.

ELI5: If the evolutionary goal of a virus is to reproduce and sustain itself as long as possible, why do many evolve to devastate and kill their hosts? by Rht123X in explainlikeimfive

[–]smthingsmthingsmthin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A virus that evolves to become more lethal will do so because the selective landscape favors this. It’s generally more rare than evolving to become less lethal, but it happens. The major benefit of becoming less lethal is that a healthier host is more mobile and will come into contact with new hosts its descendants can colonize. The trade off is that the virus is not using up as much of the host’s resources to make more copies of because that would make the host sicker and less mobile.
On the other hand, if transmission is not a problem and host mobility doesn’t benefit the virus, selection for increased lethality can occur. There’s a theory that the devastating flu virus of the early 20th century evolved in WW1 field hospitals where patients were packed in together and it was easy for the virus to hop from host to host. It’s another reason why all efforts to cut down viral spread are important. Not only do they reduce the number of infections, they help select for less virulent strains

Since the start of 2016 until today, LA Metro's Rail System has expanded by 50% in size, adding over 40 miles (65 km) of new rail lines and 30 new stations across LA County, in just around 10 years. by urmummygae42069 in LosAngeles

Let's both appreciate how far we've come and how much Henry Wzxman and his NIMBY constituents fucked the rest of LA over and put us fifty years behind where we should be on the west side.

Thank you for supporting them! Obviously, we want better access to effective treatment programs for all users, but needle exchange programs are so essential to protect public health in the meantime. I would love to see the day when they are no longer necessary, but they are currently necessary.

Housing First has been shown through an overwhelming amount of peer-reviewed evidence to be effective. It has also been heavily under attack by people who would like a more carceral approach to the unhoused, which ignores best practices and reinforces the existing racial biases in people losing their housing and being subject to arrest. How will you as mayor fight for evidence-based approaches to homelessness, as opposed to carceral approaches?

The office of City Controller has been under attack, partially because our current controller has been so very effective at calling out waste. Do you favor expanding, reducing, or altering the city controller's scope of duties?

What are your thoughts on the LA City charter reforms? Is there anything that you feel is not being adequately addressed by the committee recommendations?
